Games Freezing Help Please

So as a gamer i usually play games, not uncommon right? But when im trying to play my games it just freezes up with no reason for the freeze! Sometimes ill click around waiting for it to come back on and the windows thing will pop up saying Rust has stopped responding i really dont know whats causing this. My PC specs are:
CPU: AMD FX-4300
GPU: GTX 960 2gb
8gb DDR3 RAM
500w Turbolink power supply
MOBO: MS-7641 VER 4.0

Im thinking its the CPU because of the bottlenecking but im not sure. Any answers are better than none so please try and help me!

Try setting the RAM to 1333 MHz and see if that will make a difference

Do you mind telling me how to do that?

You will need to enter BIOS . Usually you get there by spamming the DEL key on your keyboard as you reboot .

Once there you navigate to the page and you will probably be able to apply an XMP profile . The lowest clocked one for now
