Games keep on hanging on my machine

I recently installed a new HDD due to my previous one dying. Installed win7 etc without a hitch. My problem is when I try to play any video game that isn't Hearthstone or WoW. Take chivalry :medieval warfare for example. I join a server and then something crashes outside of the game causing my Pc to hang for several minutes. If I am patient enough, I can bring up the task manager and close chivalry which free's up my pc once more. Most of the time I hard re-set. This also happens with TF2. These are the only games I've tried to far. I can guarantee it's not my CPU or my GPU overheating as the temps in my machine average around 40C for both CPU and GPU.

It could be anything in GPU, RAM or HDD. Because your HDD is new, try to run third party utility to check about its health and proper working. Run memtest86 to see if RAMs are ok. At the end you'll be left with GPU!

I ran memtest, it came up with no errors. Are there any programs you could recommend to check my HDD? Could it be a driver problem?

Dear during my deliberation in your problem one thing that came to my mind is that you have mentioned something from outside the game. You were connected with the server means you were in Multiplayer mode or playing online. You may also be checking your network adapter for its proper working.
