Hello, for some reason my games lag when I play them on the recommended settings.

An example is the game Neverwinter, the game itself recommends me to play it on MAX settings but for some reason I still lag on low-mid graphics. This is very annoying because on low graphics most games look very bad compared to high/ultra.

My rig:

Processor : AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
Hard Drive: 128 GB
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Windows Index-score: 7,3/7,9

I'm not sure if the problem lies in my hardware or on my computer itself. (I've checked my PC from the inside and everything seems to be ok)

I'm not using a virus scanner for the people wondering, can this be the reason for my lag, because a virus might be blocking something on my computer? Should I reinstall my computer WITH a virus scanner this time? And is my hardware good enough to run games like RIFT, Neverwinter or Dead Space 1?

Thanks in advance!

In the most cases yes but I don't know if your CPU will keep up with the power the newest GPUs provides. However you...

Where can I find this information on my computer? I'm sorry, I'm fairly new to this.

Edit: found the information you needed:
- HDD: 128GB, OCZ-VERTEX4 ATA Device.
- Motherboard: M4A88T-M.
- RAM: 6144MB RAM DDR3.

You're computer is good enough for the games you have listed. You mentioned something about an anti-virus program. And no, the AVP is not blocking any files, if so you would have noticed that already as the game would have crashed, prompting you with a box of encrypted text with multiple hours of google to come so you can fix the problem. Anyway, is the AVP actively scanning your system? What AVP do you have and do you have any other programs open in the background?

I'm currently not using any anti-virus programs. Is it possible that a videocard upgrade will improve the performance of games by a lot?

In the most cases yes but I don't know if your CPU will keep up with the power the newest GPUs provides. However you shouldn't be thinking about an upgrade just because your system runs poorly independent to what settings you run the game in. If you're looking for an upgrade I recommend you creating a new thread in the right sub-forum. I wish you good luck with your current problem.
