Question Games not loading and task manager not responding

Hello,

As I recently set up a computer and downloaded a game to play it would freeze on loading then disappeared from the screen.

At this point I could not see it in the task manager but it appeared as "running" on epic games launcher.

As well as this the manager was also giving "... not responding" errors when I opened the performance tab

This also happened with another game after I deleted the previous and tried this new one.

Is anyone aware of anything I could try?

Components: ryzen 5 7600, rx 6750 xt, 32gb ddr5 6000mhz

I just downloaded the launchers for the respective games from their websites, epic games(.com) and riot games(.com)
Then downloaded the games from the launchers.
Another thing I should probably add is that everything else on the computer seems to be working completely fine but it is just when the games do this glitch that everything else starts bugging like the task manager for example

How old is that Corsair 650 W PSU? History of heavy gaming use?

= = = =

Look in Reliabilty History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Either one or both tools may be capturing some error codes, warnings, or even informational events just before or at the time of the glitches.

Reliability History is much more end user friendly and the time line format may reveal patterns.

Event Viewer requires more time and effort to navigate and understand.

To help with Event Viewer:

How To - How to use Windows 10 Event Viewer | Tom's Hardware Forum (tomshardware.com)

Both tools allow clicking individual entries to obtain more details. The details may or may not be helpful.

All parts are brand new, the pc was built around 2-3 days ago no used parts

Newly built PC.

Power down, unplug, open the case.

Verify by sight and feel that all connectors, cards, RAM, jumpers, and case connections are fully and firmly in place.

No one wants to force anything especially with a new build. So what seems to be in place is actually not secure.

Gently unplug and replug everything a few times (exclude CPU). You may discovery that something suddenly goes into place with a much better "fit and feel".

Also refer to the motherboard's User Guide/Manual and other component documentation to double check physical installation and configuration settings.

Another consideration is that the system may also be trying to do updates to OS (Windows 11 noted) and other software.

That can be problematic as well.

Check Update History for any problem or failed updates.

As a straightfoward starting point also look in Reliability History/Monitor. Any error codes, warnings, or even informational events being captured?

Checked reliability history.

The only “critical event” that appears is WindowsPackageManagerServer stopped working

Also, I looked through the memory qvl of my motherboard and can’t seem to find the ram that I am using.
However the ram is being registered in my bios and allows me to access expo settings etc. If it was incompatible would it allow me to be doing this?

When it comes to RAM installations, three scenerios are often cited:

1) Works fine
2) Works with continuing problems
3) Does not work at all.

Not finding the RAM in the QVL is a red flag. Not purchasing matched RAM sets for dual channel use is another common issue.

And some motherboards require that the first physically installed RAM be placed in a specific slot. And that the the proper RAM slots are paired. The details are presented in the motherboard's User Guide/Manual.

Follow up via Event Viewer for other error codes etc..

Used event viewer after trying windows memory diagnostic tool and nothing appeared.

I am now trying memtest and there is two red lights appearing on my motherboard while it runs. Is this normal?

The red lights are besides VGA and BOOT.

Motherboard: make, model, version?

Look in the motherboard's User Guide/Manual to learn what the red lights are indicating.

You should be able to find the applicable User Guide/Manual by directly visiting the motherboard's manufacturer's website.

Do be careful as there are a numberof webites that offer manuals. Some websites are traps.

Just because the manufacturer's name appears in the URL does not mean that the website is actually the real manufacturer.

No harm in reading through the User Guide/Manual to doublecheck the entire setup: hardware, bios, configuration settings,etc..

This motherboard?

https://download.asrock.com/Manual/A620M Pro RS.pdf

Do verify that I found the applicable manual.

Post Status Checker.

Per physically numbered Page 50 the other two lights are CPU and DRAM as I understand the posted location.

Current thought being a hardware or configuration error of some sort.

Omission or commission.
Yes that motherboard.

I also checked that manual however it doesn’t give much guidance as to what the next steps would be for troubleshooting if these lights appeared.

Next steps:

Power computer down. Uplug, Open the case.

Clean out dust and debris.

Refer to the User Guide/Manual to verify that all cables are correctly connected.

Verify by sight and feel that all those connections are fully and firmly in place. Do the same for cards, RAM, jumpers, and case connections.

Use a bright flashlight to look for signs of damage: bare conductor showing, melting, pinched or kinked wires, corrosion, blackened or browned areas, loose or missing screws, scratches, swollen components.

Check all connectors, plugs and ports for debris, corrosion, damage.

When the PSU (modular) was installed did you use only the cables that came with the PSU?

Put everything back together and try again.

It still not working try running the built in Windows troubleshooters, then "dism" and "sfc /scannow"

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-sfc-scannow-to-repair-windows-system-files-2626161

After which you will need to delve deeper.

Open Disk Management, expand the screen so all can be seen. Take a screenshot and post the screenshot here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

Also run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt. Copy and paste the full results here.

Very much taking a broad swipe at troubleshooting in hopes that something will be found.

The next steps will be to do some specific searches for error codes, warnings, and even informational events using Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Present objective to rule out hardware problems.

I’ve already tried sfc/scannow and also ran memtest86 4/4 tests passed.
I have used different custom cables than those which came with the psu though.

Are you able to remove the custom cables and use only cables that came with the PSU?

Failing that are you able to borrow another known working PSU to install and use only the cables that came with that PSU?
I believe I have saved the original cables so I will be able to try them out.

I also tried different stress tests like cinebench for cpu (single and multi core) and gpu and no signs of a faulty psu appeared although I’m not educated enough to say it isn’t the psu still.

Is it possible that the problem with my computer could be drivers because I have an amd cpu and gpu so I updated their drivers both with the amd adrenaline application.

I’m just speculating here but because the games froze on start up and then my task manager stopped working too it seems like it could be a joint issue with the cpu and gpu and the only thing I’m aware which connects them is the drivers.

Again I have no idea so I’m apologies if this means nothing.

Common "connection" - power.

Take another look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Driver problems being likely to appear as some error code, warning, or even an informational event just before or at the times when things froze up.

Try manual updates - no update tools or applications.

= = = =

And, for the record, I am not a fan of stress tests.

Main reason being that if any given stress test was truly "stressful" then the test could end badly for the subject component or system.

I would not expect any manufacturer to go that far with stressing anything unless the objective is to truly find where things break.

Likewise wonder about possible cumulative effects of such stress tests.

Manufacturers do not want that to happen either....

Makes sense to look for bad disk sectors or RAM but that is not the same as stressing. Or looking at or measuring frequencies, voltages etc. to determine if performance measurements match the configuration settings. Or specifications.

Very important to understand what is being tested, how it is being tested, and the real-world meaning of the end results.

However, I am willing to defer to those who regularly use and otherwise work with stress testing tools.
