Question Games opening at a higher resolution then acual monitor resolution

Basicly when i got my pc. the resolution was at 1440p but my monitor is only 1360x768. i connected it to the tv and put it to 1360x768 everything worked untill i tried opening games. they were all opening at 1440p and it was black screen that input not supported. do u think this will go away if i clean install?

boot to safe mode to uninstall the gpu driver.

yeah i got it used. its a i5 3470 gtx 950 and 8gb ram got it for like 180$
