Hello.

When running games the game runs smoothly and very well, and then after some short playtime (sometimes might actually go for a long time until it happens) the game's fps drastically drop. (to specify, it goes with few fps spikes and then the standard fps becomes very low, about 15 )

Before yesterday everything was great, went smooth, no problems, pretty much a golden life (jk)
then suddenly when playing Homefront the revolution my fps dropped drastically from solid 40 (idk.. i'm not counting, by the feel only) to about 20 and maybe even less, and whats worse, changing the graphics quality doesn't do much. (could play on high very fine, and now can not on minimum)
not to mention a day before I could play the same game for hours straight without any problem.

now I thought it was the game and tried anything I could to fix it, and blamed the game.
now I downloaded Rise of the Tomb Raider, and I started to experience the same issue, it runs very smooth, and then the FPS suddenly drops.. (**restarting the game is repeating the same process**)

Now, I'm clueless what to do as I have no real idea on what to do, as I have never experienced such a problem before, i thought maybe its the heat from the GPU, but I can not tell.. it seems very fine for me (55degrees.. for amd this is standard.. {sadly})

Here are my specifications:
CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 KabyLake @3.50Ghz (Very much of a budget CPU, but it runs games very well titanfall 2 for example)
OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit
RAM: 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz
MB: Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (DDR4)
Graphics: Radeon RX460 2GB
Storage: SanDisk SDSSDA240G (SSD)

I'm really thankful to anyone who can help me, I will try further to find a fix for the problem and will reply it if I'll find it.

Solution
hmm... well, im out of ideas. the only thing i can think of is that since you are running windows 10, perhaps it automatically installed some update that messes with your gpu or with the games. (i hate windows 10 btw, so its easy to place blame on it). Im just thinking that if it use to work fine, and all of a sudden it doesnt, its likely something to do with an update of some sort. That said, i would try to put up an onscreen fps counter to get more exact numbers.

Just tried to do so, but it didn't do anything I used DDU to uninstall in safemode and then installed a previous version of the driver

I thought it might be the problem, so I checked, for GPU and CPU as well, but both seem to run very fine, and at stable speeds, as well the temperature is stable.. (for the GPU its 60, but it seems stable as it won't get much further from it)
as well it seems like, giving it a "break" won't do much (Leaving it on the background and letting the GPU/CPU cool down) it stays with the same lags, kinda annoying because the only solution is to restart the game everytime...

Well, if you believe this is something about this, then I will most likely try few options, at first a recovery point, and then will try the "fresh start" option of reinstalling windows.. but first I will try to download malware bytes to check out if there might be some malware sitting there..

Update on the situation,
First of all, I downloaded Titanfall 2, A game I knew for sure that it should run smoothly to make sure there is actually a problem and i'm not just overestimating my computer. I noticed the titanfall 2 as well, ran very poorly.. (kinda weird, that the whole PC didn't slow down.. but just the gaming experience did..)
I thought about scanning my PC (the windows defender is pointless..) I downloaded malware bytes and scanned with it using safe mode, it found few threats.. for some reason it said those malwares were bitcoin miners.
After restarting, I tried Titanfall 2 again, and it ran far better than previously. as well I tried homefront the revolution,(**between trying Homefront and Titanfall2 I installed a new HDD as well**) and it also ran far better than before for hours, so I guess the problem is solved.
(decided to share, in case somebody encounters this problem)

The bitcoin mining malware is probably the source of your problem. It will run in the background, using your CPU and/or GPU and slow your PC to a crawl. Removing that should fix the problem. You might want to run regular scans with Malware Bytes, or use a more advanced antivirus than Windows Defender.

Hi. Today I got this problem too. At first I tought that my hardware was messing with me, after checking all of it, I tought that maybe the graphics driver was the problem, but not. After some digging on google, searching the right words I found this thread. Surprisely I didn't even have tought that the problem could be a process that eats more than half of my pc's resources reducing gaming experience with almost 40 frames per second, created by a program named 5kplayer... weird, no?

So thank's for sharing your intel, malwarebytes helped me out. 😀

Been having this issue for quite a while now as well. Fps starts off good then slowly over about 10 to 15 mins it drops from 45 fps to 9 fps. Some days no issue at all. Just ran malwarebytes as I'm writing this and it found nothing. Gonna try running in safe mode...
