Games that can be played without a disc or internet?

I recently went to volunteer at a festival, staying in a caravan on a field. I had electricity but obviously no internet. I worked 2- 3 shifts per day and quite often at the end of an evening I really fancied going back to my 'van and just spending an hour or so chilling out playing a game.

Problem is, most of the games on my laptop fall into two categories. Some are really old games - which I love but require me to have the CD to play. My laptop doesn't have a CD drive built in so I'd have to carry an external drive and a bunch of disks around with me everywhere in case I want to play. I tried making ISOs of the game discs, but it knows immediately that they're not the original disc.
The rest are either Origin or Steam-based, meaning I can't play without an internet connection.

So long story short, of the 10+ games currently installed on my laptop, I was left with a choice of 2: a simulator game which I've gone off recently, and Champ Man 01-02 which is legendary but having not played it when it was first released, I don't enjoy it with the same nostalgia that others do.

To avoid similar pain in future, where can I get games which I can buy or download and install to my laptop's drive, which require neither an internet connection nor a disc in order to play?

I love football (soccer), driving, simulation, strategy and adventure type games so open to suggestions. I do love a good retro game too, particularly from the late 90s, early 2000s (does that count as retro now?!).

Thanks so much for any suggestions!

Have you looked into Good old games (GOG) they are like steam but also carry older games that have been updated so they work on newer Os's and they are mostly DRM free so you should be able play them offline and such.

Well, Steam does have some titles you can play offline, you just have to go into Offline Mode in order to play. The same applies for Origin. I've spent many hours playing FO4, BF1, TF2 and other games in Offline Mode. But, if you're asking for specifics, your best bet is to look at the requirements for a game before purchasing. You'll find hundreds, thousands, if not millions of titles for your preference which offer the experience of not having to connect to the pesky internet. Looking on indie gaming websites isn't a terrible thing either, since many of these games are made in engines like Unity, and thus, most of them aren't an online user interface kind of deal. Otherwise? Search for any particular title, and see what you can find. You should be able to get a prerequisite for what the game requires in order to run.

You don't have to be online to play steam games, at least not all of them. Did you try any?

I am maybe even more retro having been gaming since the 80's and love Legend of Grimrock 1 & 2 which are great games in the style of Dungeon Master/ Eye of the Beholder which you can get cheap from steam - watch some gameplay on youtube if that interests you. Not home right now to test if they work offline but I'm fairly sure the first one does. I tried googling it but game related content is blocked from here so I couldn't read any results.
