Issue with steam and uplay uninstalling games randomly and even though game files are still there, steam wont recognise them. Steam behaves really oddly when i try showing it where the folder is and I have to create a new empty folder each time. Same happened on Uplay, I was playing and closed the game, when I came back it wasn't installed. I got half way through reinstalling GRW on Uplay and then the next day it went back to 0%.

Solution
Yep. I had had enough nonsense from Steam and broke down and upgraded to a dedicated Steam 4TB HDD instead of having to worry about moving stuff around between my 2GB Steam HDD and 1GB Windows SSD. I lost a LOT of hours in gameplay which made me spit nails, especially with hundreds of hours in racing gameplay like DiRT Rally, Assetto Corsa, and Project Cars. It was a hard lesson learned. I'm okay with starting over with single player shooters, but when you have to build your car inventory and skill level up all over again, it's beyond annoying. And this is of course assuming you have a health drive.
Games don't just uninstall themselves. I don't have Uplay, so I can't answer to that. However I do have Steam games, and the only time I've ever had games disappear (meaning need to reinstall them) was when I ran a partition program to change drive space for more games like an idiot.

One thing about Steam specifically that a lot of people complain about and apparently will never be fixed is that the game save files may save in different directories on different drives. So for example, one game might save on the Windows C: drive Steam directory, and another on a second F: drive Steam directory.

I'd also look into virus activity as another possibility. That's just not normal.

Agreed!! Its just not normal! I've been building and fixing PC's hardware and software for years and I've NEVER had it happen before! Its so weird. For stream I copied and pasted the game files onto a different drive and it still wouldnt see it. When I ask it to reinstall the game over the old file it says there isn't enough space but there's 136gb free! Ive reinstalled steam with no joy but next is a full wipe and reformat methinks!

Won't be fixed because there's nothing to fix. It's completely up to the devs where save data is written, and as far as I'm aware, only Steam-integrated games actually have a modicum of consistency for this.

Oh I know that. What I was meaning by "fixed" was everyone getting together to develop a standard of sorts for where Steam game files save like you said with consistency.
