Games using wrong GPU.

I have quite a strange configuration in my pc, I use 2 GPU's of different generations; A GT 440 and a GTX 285. The reason I do this is because I want to use the GT 430 for DX11 games and the GTX 285 for DX10 and older games.

The reason I do this is also because I don't have the money to upgrade to a powerful DX11 card and the GTX 285 is powerful enough to handle all the older games I play at max settings. Now when I try to play a DX11 game like Wolfenstein The New Order it automatically tries to use my GTX 285 and runs at about 1FPS, I have tried to force the game to use the GT 440 in the nvidia panel but that doesn't help and the game still uses to wrong GPU.

So far this is one of the only games I've encountered that doesn't want to use the GPU I want it to use, games like Fallout 4 run fine with the GT 430 and don't try to use the GTX 285.

Solution
Try removing the GT4x0 altogether. The GTX285 is far more powerful and should not be running at 1fps. I'm guessing something is getting confused with your dual GPU setup and your attempts at steering games through different GPUs.

Describe your configuration. How many monitors, connected to which cards?

You want to make sure your monitor is connected to the GPU you want to use for the game. I don't think you can render in one GPU while driving the display with another.

There's no reason to use the low end GT 440 over the GTX 285. Yes the 440 is DX11 enabled, while the 285 is not, but the DX11 games will run better on the GTX 285 in terms of performance, with DX11 features disabled.

But it does not matter, since the GT 440 cant even hope to run those demanding games at full graphics details, so using it to render those DX11 games is like trying to decorate a donkey with spoilers and bumpers and GTi logos, and hoping it will run as fast as a car while looking as good as one. It just wont happen, your poor GT 440 cant handle Wolfenstein, lol.

Not trying to be mean, but just remove the 440 and use the GTX 285.

I use 2 1680x1050 monitors and a plasma (1280x768) tv. the plasma runs through hdmi into the GT 440 as well as the secondary 1050p monitor through vga. The main 1050p monitor runs through vga into the GTX 285.

Yes, if i disable the GTX 285 I can use the GT 440 but the only way I can 'disable' the GTX 285 is by taking it out of the system.

No Wolfenstein The New Order is a DX11 game and the reason it runs at 1FPS on the GTX 285 is because it cannot use DX11 so just uses software rendering.

Most DX11 games need a DX11 card and they wont even launch with the GTX 285, thats the case with games like Fallout 4, oh and the GT 440 actually runs Fallout 4 and other DX11 games fine (Fallout 4 @ Medium preset, 720p)

I stand corrected then.
Still, the GT 440 is a very weak low-end card. If It were me, I'd be looking for a replacement. You can get some pretty good deals if you dont mind getting a used card. A GTX 950 is pretty cheap, definitely worth considering, it will solve all your problems.
