Games wont go full screen

Ive got this weird problem i just noticed today. Some of my games like bf1 and mass effect wont go full screen unless they are set to "borderless". No matter what i try to do they wont go full screen, its either windowed or borderless.
Any ideas ?

have you tried alt-enter when in windowed mode? if so what happens?

I tried and nothing happens. What really happens when i try to switch from borderless to full screen the screen flickers as the game tries to go full screen but ends up windowed. Something is not allowing the game to go full screen.

Are these game specific? What happens when each mode is selected (Fullscreen, borderless, and windowed?)
