Gaming Build for 1000 CND

I am looking to build my first gaming pc and leave console gaming behind but I am getting confused as to what components to get for my pc because there are so many opinions out there. My budget is maxed at $1000 but anything under that would be great so that i can spend more on a monitor.

I've been trying to research this but no one seems to agree on any one component, making it hard for me to choose what to purchase.

Just out of curiosity is there and AMD processor you'd suggest as an alternative? I'm trying to see what the difference in pricing would be.

What are the cons? The FX-8350 heats a lot, so does the R9 290. It will affect your electricity bill. Intel i5-4460 is better for gaming.

Ok thanks for checking that out. I'll look into that setup.
If i were to lower the budget to 700-800 would I see a significant drop in performance? I'm a student right now so if i can go a little cheaper now i can upgrade it when I'm finished college next year or so. If there isnt a huge difference in performance than I might settle for cheaper build for now.

Balanced build, with a really nice case. Doesn't fit a DVD drive though but has a dust filter instead.
