Solution
Only you can make the final call. The R9 280X is a great card, really is. Cost about $300. A good buy. The R9 290 costs $400. The 290 has a lot of good stuff, DSP for sound, better GPU, potential for Mantel, the 512 bit memory interface along with 4GB which is plenty. The R9 290 kisses the Titan in sped for 40% of the price!!!

The problem with the R9 290 is it runs hot and noisy. I would recommend waiting a month or so until the third parties come up with the custom coolers. Look for a lot more speed and quietness.

The GTX 700's just are blown away in value. The 700's all run quiet and cool, but cost more. The R9 280X's are a good solution with updated cooling.

In short, if you had to buy now, perhaps a R9 280X and save some bucks...

thanks but thats what i had in mind :) ! is the 280x a good option or should i go to the nvidia 700series?

Either get the R9 290 or the HD 7970 as the 280x is a rebranded Radeon HD 7970.

Solution

Do not get a 7970. They all have struggled with noise and heat. The R9 280X has a superior cooling solution and is worth the extra dozen dollars or so.

were can i get the r9 290 for $400? from what i checked is about 550 - 600

The R9 290, not the R9 290X.

thanks babernet really appreciate your input

any other suggestions or should i go ahead with this build?

Also the CPU Cooler i selected im not sure it can handle overclocking above 4Ghz and i would like to go up to 4.4
