Okay so I've been battling a problem for the past few weeks. I am no longer able to game with my computer. I have extremely limited knowledge but the only things I can think of are a bad power supply or a bad motherboard? Here's how it goes:

When I load up a game, I can get anywhere from 2-10 minutes into it before my screen simply cuts to black, whatever sound is playing begins to loop, and my computer completely locks up. I opened my case up in order to observe what was happening when it froze and right as it freezes my video card basically shuts off, fans stop spinning, etc. Only way to get back online is to manual reboot. This ONLY happens while gaming, but the game doesn't matter as it's happened during Far Cry 3, BF3, MW3, GTA 4, La Noire, Medieval 2, even the old Red Alert games. I posted this on a few other forums and got tons of different answers, mostly driver related. I have attempted to uninstall, delete, and re-download as many drivers as I can find over 5 times and this still happens. It's to the point where I don't even know which drivers are installed, lol. I tried unplugging non-essential items like my 2nd hard drive and DVD drive from the power supply to alleviate pressure in case my PSU was failing or something, but it still happened. I download and ran furmark on the extreme test or whatever and it ran for like 20 minutes no problem, never caused the black screen. This problem also happened back a month or so ago before I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8, so I know the new OS isn't the problem. I even hooked my old 5750 card up and tried to run BF3 and a few others and the freeze still happened. So I am highly doubtful that the video card has anything to do with the problem. The only thing I can think of to do is simply order both a new power supply and motherboard, and hope that the problem magically fixes itself with new hardware.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to cover as many bases as possible and hope that maybe someone out there has one last suggestion. Maybe some specific links for updated drivers for all my hardware so I can be sure I'm not downloading incorrect ones? Any other help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. . .

Your card could be getting too hot!!! Can you give me a temperature reading at idle and in gaming (if possible) use CPUID Hardware Monitor to do this.

Also it could be your PSU but it looks like a quality unit 500w should be able to run that. However, you have used an older and less demanding 5750 and the issue persists. It's possibly that or the board. Do you have another board you can test?

If u r system (processor, gpu, smps)fan has any damage the system overheat quickly so protect from more damage the system shutdown without any error message like bluescreen message.
so check all fans are working correctly and clean the dust from cpu.

It could also be the thermal paste has expired?

I SOLVED black screen + jammed sound freeze about a month ago. Tried many things, but only one worked:

Download any program that allows you to clock your graphic card (I used nVidiaInspector) and underclock it a little.

I had often crashes in League of Legends, Diablo 3 and similar games, but since i turned both GPU and graphic memory 40 MHz lower, I never had even one crash, and the underclocking had no serious impact on fps. Seems like capacitors cant handle highest performance any more. :hello:
