Hello, I am building a home computer for the first time and i was wondering if these parts are all compatible, good, and any suggestions.

I would do the same as the above, although I prefer Asus boards and don't see any problem with yours. As far as the GPU, if you're going to spend $470 you should buy the 7970 which performs better for about the same price.

I would exchange the Vertex 4 for a Crucial M4 128GB or a Samsung 830 120GB. Lower price, same performance.
M4: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-128GB-2-5-Inch-Solid-CT128M4SSD2/dp/B004W2JKZI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355197618&sr=1-1&keywords=crucial+m4
830: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-120GB-internal-Solid-MZ-7TD120BW/dp/B009NHAF06/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355197627&sr=1-1&keywords=samsung+830

You don't need 16GB RAM. I would get 2x4GB. Also, the higher clock speed isn't going to help you, from what I've read. So, I'd save the money and go with something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186 (G.Skill has an identical product if you prefer that brand)

That Zalman cooler is a great CPU cooler. But it's a bit pricey. You can get great cooling performance for a bit cheaper (if you want) by going with a CM Hyper 212 Evo: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1355197678&sr=1-1&keywords=cooler+master+hyper+212+evo

The ASRock board is generally a few bucks cheaper and offers the same features if not more than the Asus board.

Good catch on the RAM and CPU cooler. And I second the Samsung 830. I believe it would be an even better choice than the Crucial M4. Just my opinion.
