Hello,

In Summer 2013 I custom built a gaming computer for about $1500. The components are as follows:
-Intel i5 4670k
-EVGA Superclocked GTX 770 2GB
-Corsair Vengeance 8GB
-Corsair h100i
-Asus z87 Pro Motherboard
-NZXT Phantom 410
-Windows 8.1

Peripherals:
-NZXT Hue
-Touch Screen Fan Controller
-ASUS VS247 Monitors (x2)

I recently purchased Far Cry 4 and tweaked all my settings for maximum quality. I experienced an alarming amount of lag and lack the fluidity I typically enjoy with most new games. I'm going off to college in less than two years and will need a laptop at some point to replace what I have now. I would like to avoid putting more than a couple hundred dollars into my computer solution for the next few years.

Should I continue to upgrade this computer and sell it right before I go off to college, and if so, what should I upgrade in it? OR Should I sell all of my components and try for something such as the ASUS ROG G751JT-DH72, and if so, what is a fair asking price for what I have?

Thank you for your response!

I would just get a crappy simple laptop and get a good computer upgrade. You just need to get a gtx 970 and you're good. Here's a good laptop: http://www.amazon.com/15-6-Inch-Intel-Celeron-Laptop-500GB/dp/B00L49X8E6/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
My parents got that for my sister for her birthday. It's really nice, but not for gaming. It's good for taking notes because of the nice keyboard and the ok track pad. The most you can do is have Word open and have a web browser open.

Why not just buy a new graphics card for the computer and get a tablet with a keyboard?

You can take all your notes just fine on a tablet and you'll have your PC when you need it. As it stands, the gaming laptop is going to cost more than what you can sell the desktop for and it will be a fraction of the speed.

The T100TAM is a great tablet with a keyboard that comes with it. It even runs Windows 8.1 full. It's only $350 too

I agree with this. Your PC is far from outdated so why not keep around. The only thing causing performance issues in your game is your card and you can upgrade that. For school you don't need much more than a cheap laptop/tablet.
I am currently using an old $300 toshiba for school. I put a SSD and an extra stick of RAM and this thing does everything I need it to do(word, powerpoint, internet).

That makes a lot of sense, thank you for all of the quick responses. I would want something with full windows 8.1 because RT really doesn't suit me.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm not quite in a position to buy an additional computer, but I will be keeping the tower for now. Provided I can get some money selling my GTX 770 I will look at upgrading that to a 970.

Yeah, would avoid RT if you can. It doesn't really compare well to windows.

As others have said, A tablet or cheap laptop can get the job done. Usually you can get a more powerful laptop for a comparably priced tablet as they don't have to shrink and cram parts into a small space.

Dropbox will come in handy. Drop assignments on desktop and poof, they are on your tablet/laptop.
