heres the basics of my current system

amd fx - 8350
gfx card - r9 280x
ram- 8gigs

i've been using the am3 platform for the past four years, and i'm looking to move to a newer platform and i'm looking at 1151 or am4. I mainly use my pc for high refresh rate gaming and target 144 fps in most games.

which cpu would you recommend (i'm happy to shell out the cash for the 7700k but don't know if its necessary)

i'd also like to pair this cpu with a gtx 1080.
