gaming desk solution?

I have a very small space for a desk and only have enough space for a keyboard. There's extra space, but not enough for my mousepad. What should I do about my mouse.

1. Buy a new desk. A good desk doesn't have to be that expensive and is worth the investment
2. If you can, find and install a keyboard tray. Keep the keyboard on top of the desk and the mouse on the keyboard tray.

is it comfortable having the mouse below the keyboard or vice versa

Obviously having both the mouse and keyboard on the same plane is ideal. But it's not really that bad to have one on top and the other on the keyboard tray. I know a few people who game just fine like that. I will suggest that if you keep the keyboard on top of the desk you may want to consider a wrist pad for your left wrist.
