My thread title is too specific. But still, I have my vacations arriving in a week. So I was thinking of convincing Dad to invest in the old desktop I have. I guess it has nothing I can use, other than the HDD for gaming.
So I need you guys to help me build a computer under 20K INR which can run games,if not current, then at least recent.
You can post links from www.flipkart.com as I may use it to buy.
Thanks.

Yes the build looks fine get this PSU http://www.flipkart.com/corsair-vs550-550-watt-psu/p/itmdg36xx8yzgjrs?pid=PSUDG34775NHYDHK&otracker=from-search&srno=t_2&query=PSU+500+&ref=8e716a20-5789-46b9-acf4-6533c740b039 its...
20k is very low for a gaming build in India if you have a monitor then you have to raise your budget to at least 10k more for a low end gaming build.

The GPU requires 500W power but the PSU is a 450W provider.
I think I can live with a 4GB RAM for now
Also if I am willing to take the budget to 35K INR...can I get something better? Like an i5?

The r7 260x GPU doesn't require 500 watt of power the card has a max TDP of 115 watts r9 270x and gtx 760 requires 500 watt of power.
Don't get the RAM like that always buy ram in pair because the rams which comes in pair are tested for compatibility and with single ram sticks there is always a chance of comparability issue later and many modern games require more than 4 gb of ram.
I5 4440 is currently available for 12,990/- http://www.flipkart.com/intel-3-1-ghz-lga-1150-i5-4440-4th-generation-processor/p/itmdpgyx9fn9cgan?pid=PSRDPGYVRPJAYYFH&otracker=from-search&srno=t_3&query=i5+&ref=ba69b680-30a0-4b43-b1c0-319efbc92c40 so yes you can get the I5 if you increase your budget but if you want performance in games then get R9 270 instead http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-amd-ati-radeon-r9-270-boost-oc-2-gb-ddr5-graphics-card/p/itmdsa4vzqeshbmp?pid=GRCDSA4VZQESHBMP&otracker=from-search&srno=t_2&query=r9+270&ref=04105ce5-5d0d-4ee7-8230-5ea4420e777f it would make the real difference in gaming.
Also get this PSU http://www.flipkart.com/corsair-vs550-550-watt-psu/p/itmdg36xx8yzgjrs?pid=PSUDG34775NHYDHK&otracker=from-search&srno=t_1&query=vs+550&ref=7ba0a8e1-071e-4e66-88cf-329269db57c4

The R9 is about twice the cost of the R7. This won't help the budget.
Also the specifications on the flipkart page say that the R7 260X requires 500W power supply. Please check. Is there any other Graphics card under 10K that I should consider?

The r7 260x doesn't require 500 watt PSU flipkart has recommended 500 watt PSU for R7 260x because if you use a super crappy PSU with low amps @ 12+ volt rail then due to higher wattage fills up the gap.

I have given you the best build i can within your budget and if you are getting this PC for gaming then get the best GPU.
Rule No. 1 for gaming PC the GPU should be the most expensive part of your system.
If you are willing to spend 5k more than get the R9 270 with antec VP 550 watt PSU.

http://www.snapdeal.com/product/antec-vp550-550-watts-psu/1166162452#bcrumbSearch:antec%20vp%20550

I have checked the site details about PSU and they have mentioned about 100-150 watt PSU more power than required R9 270 PSU requirement is 600 watt which is lame because the card consumes upto 130 watt at peak load while gaming and the system will not cross more than 250 watt at full load.(While choosing a PSU the quality and amps on a single rails makes the difference.
04-Power-Consumtion-Gaming.png

This a power consumption chart for the card for respective cards the r9 270 is not on the list but the r9 270x is there which is same as r9 270 just a factory OC version.
oc-power-consumption-powercolor-devil-r9-270x-gpu-custom-pc-review.jpg

And this chart is whole system included.

I'm supporting prit87 here. You don't need that much of a PSU. I'd probably find the money (3,800) for the Seasonic ECO 500 or the Antec VP450 at 2,660.

Your budget is at the bottom edge of what is doable. If more money is available later, I'd consider getting only one 4Gb memory stick and getting more later and put the saved money into GPU.

Yes modern games Memory requirement is more than 4 gb and yes the GTX 750 and the R7 260x are comparable cards in some games the gtx 750 would give you 3-4 FPS more than r7 260x and in some the R7 260x would perform better.
if you are having 2nd thoughts about memory then get a 4 gb for now and get another 4 gb of the same model in future.

Don't get me wrong, you DO NEED 8Gb of memory to run current games. However, you can live with 4Gb for a couple of months while you get your system together and running. Especially if that allow you to get a better system sooner.

What can you do to save money in a budget gaming build? (In order of desirability)
1. Buy half your memory now, half later.
2. Buy the absolutely cheapest case you can stand.
3. Buy a smaller HDD (won't save much, but 500Gb will do for most)

What must you do to ensure a good gaming build. (In order of most important)
1. Buy a good reliable power supply.
2. Get the best GPU you can afford.
3. Get a solid motherboard.

CPU is more flexible, depending on the second-hand market.

I had another question. How does resolution matter in terms of game performance? My current monitor is a very old one, about 2007 model. The resolution is 1024 x 768 on it. It doesn't have any graphics on it.
Do I need to buy another monitor (it will add to the cost) for this build?

More the resolution less the FPS you will get at your resolution the r9 260x and the gtx 750 will give you good performance you can play most of the games at high settings some even at ultra with good FPS like BF4 but if you play it at 1080p with these cards you have to play at medium graphic settings to get good FPS.

Your last words on this...Also suggest a good PSU. (preferably cheap)

Yes the build looks fine get this PSU http://www.flipkart.com/corsair-vs550-550-watt-psu/p/itmdg36xx8yzgjrs?pid=PSUDG34775NHYDHK&otracker=from-search&srno=t_2&query=PSU+500+&ref=8e716a20-5789-46b9-acf4-6533c740b039 its an average PSU but at this price you cant expect any better later upgrade your ram to another 4 gb.
