I have a question on what graphics card would be an upgrade from my current XFX R9 270x because im considering upgrading. i have an AsusTek M32CD motherboard, a Thermaltake TR2 600W power supply, and windows 10. I am considering a nvidia in the $200-$250 only if it is an improvement from my current gpu

The Gigabyte does need a BIOS update. https://www.amazon.com/MSI-RX-480-ARMOR-8G/dp/B01M4J144F/ref=sr_1_7?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483195357&sr=1-7&keywords=480&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A6066318011is a better choice for a 480.

Which CPU do you have?

i have a Intel I5 6400

They'll play beautifully with each other. They do go toe to toe in many titles. I'd go to some professional review sites and Youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=i5+6400+480+armor can show you some amateur results.
