I have a Tritton 720+ 7.1 surround sound and my computer has an S/PDIF OUT port so I tried using it but in the windows sound manager, it doesn't show and someone told me that S/PDIF only works with Sony and Philips electronics. Is this true? If so is there a way to connect a non-Sony, non-Philips optical cable into an S/PDIF OUT port?

Solution
That's not true, SPDIF is a standard, and any headset that supports it will be able to use it. Make sure you have your motherboard's onboard sound drivers installed.

Actually I found out that I needed an S/PDIF connector. Because I tried it on my friend's computer which didn't have a graphics card and worked.

So I don't think I'll need this thread anymore, how do I delete it?
