Hi guys, Noob here looking for recommendations for the best build possible with a budget of £1000-£1300. Will mainly be used for gaming and HTC vive/ Rift. I also want this to be able to run the newest games at the best settings and for it to handle 4k gaming . Monitor/OS not needed.

Preferably like uk sourced parts please.

Thanks in advance

Actually I think this would be better if you can stretch your budget a bit:

All you need is an auxilary cable that has a two prong red / black connector so you can have one end connected to your receiver and the other connected to your PC. That is what I did with my HTPC.

Comparing the other build, you realized that you're spending much on a M.2 SSD and went with a 980 to make things within the budget, now spending above the budget with the second one makes a place for a 980ti, how funny to watch. If i were you, I could well use the money on other parts. Still, a 1TB HDD in a £1300 build sounds novice.

Most people don't even use mechanical HDs anymore. It's either M2 or a standard SSD. I just include these out of force of habit anymore, or if the OP really wants one in a build. It's one thing you can sacrifice anymore if you don't need it.

I disagree, people who are on a tight budget generally goes with mechanical Hard drives for mass storage. Okay, yes, comparing them with the speed, it's the SSD who always wins, but they are not meant for storing mass date and transferring huge no.of date files from one place to another where the mechanical hard drives still excels. Yes, they could be less reliable than a SSD, but a better option for price over a solid state drive. I don't think most of the people can deny that. What you're investing on a SSD, you can get a Higher capacity HDD.

and I don't think a M.2 could be benefited over getting a better video card especially for 4K gaming.

1. Yes true, I definitely agree with that. There's things that a mechanical hard drive is still good for and even 250GB on a main SSD like a Samsung Evo is still stretching it. Especially when you consider for games that something like GTA V takes up 60GB on a hard drive. If we're talking in terms of cost per GB though, a 250GB SSD + a 1 or 2 TB hard drive offers a far better value if you're comparing it against a 1TB SSD which still retails around the ~$300 range.

2. True, but on £1000, which is currently USD $1500, I would always try to get the latest tech if it's feasible. If not I would definitely go for the better GPU. Especially if you're factoring VR into the mix.

Thanks guys, I seem to be favouring g-unit1111 2nd suggesting below unless anyone can better it.

i7-6700K
Noctua NH-U9B SE2 37.9 CFM CPU Cooler
MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5"
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card
NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX

Just a few things to add,
1. I would like a better case, maybe one with leds. I like the look of the NZXT Phantom Enthusiast. Budget of £100 for the case.
2, need a WiFi Network card
3. Optical player
4. Half decent keyboard
5. A psu that would be able to cope if I sli the gpu in the future.

Cheers
