Every time I play games such as guild wars 2, battlefield 4 and even league of legends, I begin to get these lag spikes that last about 30 seconds and occur every 5 minutes or less. I noticed this problem does not occur right when I start up the game but instead after I've been playing for about 20 minutes or so. I Have the 570gtx evga GPU and it performs well and I am able to pretty much max out the settings in these games. I just don't understand why the card can run these games and have zero lag on ultra settings and then suddenly just begin getting all choppy at low fps for a good 30 seconds and then go completely back to normal with smooth gameplay again. My GPU runs at low 30 degrees idle and about 75-80 degrees while playing. I have a an AMD quad core cpu with 16gb of ram. I have cleaned the GPU, overclocked, reinstalled windows, updated drivers and pretty much everything I could think of.
Some say it could be something to do with the network? I don't understand how a problem like this could occur..

Anyway any advice is greatly appreciated

Solution
It does appear to be the same device. Newegg also has a site in Canada, you might check them as well and then get the better bargain.

Swapping the heatsinks is pretty easy. The provided instructions will help you through the process. With the new heatsink, you can certainly OC your rig. The results (and stability) will depend on several factors.

I suggest swapping the heatsinks and ensuring you are 100% at stock speeds. Then come back to the Overclocking section of the forum and post a new thread. Many have OCed the same CPU you have and you should get no shortage of help to max out its performance.

Actually, better airflow, a better heatsink/fan, or simply applying fresh thermal compound may do the trick. Also, stop all overclocking to see if the system stabilizes as well.

Are you using the stock AMD CPU heatsink or an aftermarket model?

Oh wow COLGeek I just checked with OpenHardwareMonitor and I noticed when the spike occurs, all my CPU cores jump to 100% during this lag. That all makes sense now that it is probably the CPU. Once the lag stops it sits from 60-80% and then slowly goes up to 90% and then it lags and everything jumps to 100%... why is this? How can I fix this? I am glad you distinguished what the problem was.

Also I am using the stock thermal paste.

Already tried that. Should I just upgrade the CPU? I don't really want to spend the money but it may be the only option? Or overclock it with the stock cooler but I don't know how to do this properly.

Is that the same as this? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8160001&CatId=493

Also, how would I go about removing the old heatsink without making a mess or damaging any components?
If I purchase this soon, is their any way you can help me overclock to about 3.8GHZ - 4.0GHZ? That should do the trick, right?

Thanks again!

Okay perfect I will do that tonight and test the temperatures with the new heatsink installed. Sounds like a much more inexpensive fix to really juice up the performance:) thanks again!

Interesting. So once I download those hot fixes, I should be okay? Can I still OC the cpu with a new heatsink or am I wasting my time and just buy a better cpu? TD has one on sale for $132 the 8 core I believe however I want to avoid this route of possible due to $$

Those updates are likely already applied if Windows is up to date. On my previous AMD based rig, the changes before and after applying those hotfixes was minimal.

Adding the new heatsink will allow you to OC your current CPU more safely than with the OEM heatsink. You should be fine with your current CPU after making the change.

Just want to confirm that the new heatsink worked. I can now play these games on ultra settings with zero issues and no lag. I guess my stock one was working too hard to cool the CPU down! I purchased thermal paste from TD as well and spread it evenly over the entire CPU chip after I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol.
Thank you COLGeek!

I know overclocking is probably not necessary however, I would like to do so anyway even if its just a little bit. How would I do this using AI Tweaker? I posted a thread but I didn't get any replies=(

Hey, thanks for posting this on the forum. I have the exact same problem, however my cpu usage doesn't go up when this happens. I can check again to see, but I'm pretty sure its not the cpu thats causing the problems for me. Anyone help?

Start a new thread, please.
