Dear collective

I’m working away from home a lot right now and while I’ve tried to cover off my gaming needs with a PS4, its not the same as the choice I have on my gaming PC. I also have to give up my desktop PC for the kids to do homework. So with that in mind, I’m in the market for a gaming laptop.

I’ve looked at a lot of reviews etc and I think I’m down to either the Alienware 15 or the P37X V4. I can get both to within a whisper of my £1500 budget.

I was aiming for an i7/IPS/980m/8gb Ram/SSD big enough to boot and for a few games/1tb storage. That said, I'm undecided on 17 vs 15 inch panel, whether I'd notice the difference between a 970m vs a 980m for the price point, or if I could settle on 8gb over 16gb.

Alienware is attractive because of the amplifier with which I could conceivably squeeze some more years out of it as a desktop gaming replacement (I’d buy the amp next year, most likely). The P37X-V4 has slightly better specs including a 17 inch panel, but I’ve read in a few places that it sounds like a jet taking off under load. I guess they all do though.

In terms of gaming, I tend not to run current triple A titles although I’d like to be able too. I’ll most likely have power rather than a need to run over a battery.

That said, I’ve been building my own PCs for longer than I care to remember and am happy to consider “smaller brands” in the UK (pc specialist anyone?) if they’re any good and someone has a strong recommendation.

I’d appreciate people’s thoughts, comments and recommendations; I’ve given thought to combinations of console sized pcs/consoles/homework pcs and thinking all that through, I’m pretty set down the path of gaming laptop.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so i'm not great with laptops, and I persoanlly had a laptop for years and it bugged me to hell with the heat, the noise and the lack of upgradability. Now I can only give you advice so I would personally go with this: http://uk.portablepicker.com/part/asus-laptop-g751jtdh72 I like it and it seems really good.

Now for me to sway your opinion. From personal experience, getting an ultra small form factor PC is much better. You get quieter performance, a lot cheaper prices, more options for parts, and just all round better, yes you'll need a monitor but I dont really mind that trade off.

Now you could do this yourself. Or you could get it built for you, I would try synntechgaming.com, although their website is being upgraded...

Or I would use hazardouspcs.com. It's mainly for the pricing and the amount of options that you can get.
