I have a MSI Stealth GS77 12UE-046 gaming laptop with an HDMI 2.1 output. I just purchased an Asus ROG Swift PG279QM 1440p monitor that is capable of a 240hz refresh rate. My problem is the monitor only has HDMI 2.0 inputs. If I were to purchase an Displayport 1.4 male to HDMI 2.1 male cable would this allow me to reap the full benefits of the 240hz refresh rate?

No. The weakest link in the chain will be the one in use. In this case, since the monitor can only accept up to HDMI 2.0, the output will be limited to HDMI 2.0. This limits 1440p to about 120Hz-144Hz. Although it might do 1080p 240Hz since this is the same bandwidth as 4K60, which HDMI 2.0 can support.

why not possible? you have HDMI 2.1 (laptop output) to DP 1.4 (monitor input) with both supporting 1440p 240hz
