So I can see the Optane question has been raised multiply times but I'm trying to make a decision on a new laptop and having trouble making a choice...

So I need at least a tb so I can keep a few games stored, I was looking at a 1tb hdd + 256ssd solution, but I've just seen Optane boosted hdd (never heard of it before now) and I'm intrigued... Would a 1tb Optane hdd be better than the hdd + ssd because the whole 1tb will be boosted? And I won't get all my games on the 256ssd.

Cheers guys !!

Solution
You're better off with your initial plan of attack, 256GB~500GB SSD + 1TB mechanical HDD. Could you pass on a link to the 1TB Optane HDD, you speak of?

Caught me off guard there Lutfij, didn't expect such a quick reply... cheers buddy!!

The two options are a little different, I'll post the link to both. The first is an msi with a previous gen i5 which seems to benchmark quite low at around 6000 but has gtx1060. It has the 1tb hdd and 256gb sdd and that was the laptop is decided on...

Then I saw the Lenovo Y530, it has the newer generation i5 so benchmarks on that are much higher at around 9000, which will be useful in some games I guess and I do a bit of video editing now and again so that would be nice. It only has a gtx1050 but that is enough for me (altho 1060 good for future proofing... and maybe vr ;) ) and this has the 1tb Optane hdd... it is also a little cheaper and looks nicer imo with the almost bezel-less screen.

So the clincher for me would be if the Optane boosted drive is really as good as it claims !

But with the slower i5 7300HQ
