Gaming Memory for Z77 setup

Hi,

I just purchased an I7 3770K. I focus more on stability rather than overclocking. I am thinking of going with a ASRock Z77 Extreme6 board. Looking for recommendations on memory. Mainly, if I want 16GB do I go with 2x8GB or 4x4GB. And at what frequency? Most newer rigs I see people posting still use the DDR3 1600, rather than DDR3 1800.

while 2x8GB is expensive by another $25 more.

Your mobo supports up to 48 gb memory. So, that leaves you space to throw-in another 16 GB (2 X 8 gb) in FUTURE. If you think that's enough, save the $25.

The i7 3770K supports up to 1600. That's probably the reason.

The 3770K will work fine with higher frequencies (the limit is only relevant to the warranty), but they don't yield much of an improvement over 1600mhz, the sweet spot for value. That's why 1600s are common.

I don't see you ever using more than MAYBE 32gb of RAM in the entire lifetime-to-failure of this build.

DDR-1600.

And you shouldn't even need more than 8GB, unless you do video editing. So 2x4GB.

But memory is cheap now, so you CAN get a 16GB kit (4x4GB), or 2 8GB (2x4GB) kits.

Will quad-channel memory work in a motherboard that specifies dual channel? I looking at selling my tripple-channel 12GB set just because I thought it wouldn't work in a dual-channel board.
