I'm currently looking to buy myself a gaming monitor but I can't decide whether to go for 1080 or 1440. I will go for a G-sync monitor.

What will I hook up to the monitor:
- PS4 Pro
- Nintendo Switch
- Gaming PC (GTX 1060 / i5 6600K)

Will the image look less sharp when I play 1080 games on a 1440 screen (on my PS4/Switch or some very demanding games on PC)
- Can my GTX 1060 run most games at 60 fps at 1440?

I also want my screen to be future-proof, especially when Nvidia Volta cards become available in the next years.

Any advice?

Solution
1. Looking at GTX1060, 1080p is the best solution unless you are willing to turn down some in-game settings for 1440p to get at 60 fps.
2. 1440p 144Hz 27" with GSync is the better pick, if you can do nr. 1. I did that and do not want to go back again
3. Switch, PS4 and PC into a monitor...hmmm...2 hdmis and 1 DP...be carefull in choosing monitor, pay attention to the inputs...make sure the monitor has enough....or buy a HDMI switch , if necessary.

Current AAA? Nah, not on ultra settings that is...

If you're going to get G-Sync, i'd definitely recommend a 1080p monitor with 144Hz refresh rate. Much better experience IMHO.
