I've tried both but, as I'm often using my monitor in a darkened room, found the IPS glow to be intolerable. VA is it for me until I eventually move to OLED, QD-OLED, or similar.
IPS, no brainer, especially since IPS screens are no longer by and large limited to 60hz with horrible blooming (sadly I'm still stuck with one until the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 drops to a reasonable price). OLED is the ultimate dream, but it's not built for the static elements of a PC monitor. Mini-LED should be the compromise, but those are still years away from being mainstream.
I have OLED 1440p 240Hz(Xeneon Flex) and it's great, if it was 4K, I would keep it for a very, very long time, currently going to sell it in 3-4 years to upgrade to a 4K 240Hz QD-OLED if there is one by then.
i have a great aorus 1440p 144hz ips. I use philips hue play for ambient light, which helps the screen look perfect. I cant wait for an OLED 1440p 27inch at the $600 price range.
