I am looking into buying a monitor for FPS shooters (mainly COD) on the Xbox 360, and maybe after a while an Xbox one. The monitor that really catches my eye, I have done research on, and put threads out for is the Asus VS247H-p.

It is a 60hz monitor. Would I be better off spending some more money on lets say a VG248QE, which is a 144hz monitor, or any other 120 or 144hz?

Also I have been talking to some people who say it would be better to go with a 24 inch TV instead. What do you guys say to that?

What about plasma? I hear they have very good color productions and are more than excellent for gaming. Any input here?

Also, I would like reviews on the VS247H-P from people who have owned them. I hear dead pixels are pretty popular on this model.

So after all my questions and concerns, I would like to mention that i am budgeting around 150 USD. So I ask that people try to answer the questions i ask with as much as they know, provide a better display, or if mine is good enough let me know. I am open to all suggestions and any input.

That asus you have mentioned above is actually very good. You can buy it with no worries.... But just to give a suggestion i am suggesting you BenQ GL2460HM . Check this out too. But my final words will be ASUS all the way....

So what about the dead pixels on these monitors? Should I expect them?

So I checked up on both monitors again, and there is a 2 dollars difference between them, the Asus being the more expensive. Which one would you think would be best? The pros and cons on each monitor are surprisingly almost the same. I guess it just comes down to a matter of preference. I feel like Asus is a more known company that I kind of trust more. But BenQ has been rising a lot and over the past couple years they have stepped up there game.

Xbox 360 and Xbone can't do 120 FPS so no point in 120/144hz monitor. Console games are capped at 60 FPS so stick to 60 Hz monitor. Any higher refresh rate monitor and it will just show the same frame twice. TVs have this feature built in .. called as Motion Blur or Motion Plus.

So TV is a better option as you can get a larger TV in the same price as this monitor. And console gaming is supposed to be done on larger screens/TVs considering your distance from the screen compared to a PC where you sitting a feet away from the screen/monitor.

Sitck to 60 HZ for console games. They cap at 60 FPS so no point in 140Hz or 122HZ for consoles.

Also a true gamer would never tell you to go Asus, you always go BenQ (Asus every once in a while also ships monitors with dead pixels, BenQ never does). Check out the BenQ RL2455HM. It is the monitor I have and it is awesome. It is useable for both Consoles and PC's. it has a DVI, VGA, and HDMI input. Runs at 60Hz and for just $180 US dollars off amazon it is amazing. Highly reccomend it! Let me know if you end up getting this one!

This is also coming from a gamer who has used both brands. No fanboying involved.

@Nitesdeath .. this is not a fan boy war and you do sound like a true gamer .. but .. you've made a very contradictory statement .. a true gamer is never brand loyal .. they go with what makes them game the best .. be it a BenQ or an Asus.
I've an enthusiast grade gaming PC with an Asus mobo and GPU but my monitor is Dell (a brand I personally hate; they should promote everyone in their design department and fire everyone in Engineering cz their products are beautiful yet non-functional) cz that Dell goes best with my needs.

Just my two cents.

Agreed! I also have an asus mobo 😉 Just telling him in regards to benchmarks performance etc an average ASUS will be below the average BenQ monitor.

Exactly! I could care less about the name on the monitor, or what it was built for. If it out performs other monitors at the same price or even more, than that is what I need to know. I don't buy names. I buy quality. If that makes sense.

Also I could go with a TV, but I need a smaller size. I feel like the smaller the size is, the more I can take in at once. I used to play on a huge 55 inch. I thought that was amazing. Then I realized pros and youtubers and a lot of gaming set ups included monitors. So I moved down to about a 30 inch TV. My game improved dramatically. It is so much better now. But my TV isn't HD. Its old and it just doesn't do video games any justice. So that's why I am investing in a new display.

Why not Asus? If they make the same quality monitor as a BenQ, but its 30 dollars cheaper, why not go with the Asus monitor? Just an example. But I do see your standing point. BenQ does make some very solid monitors, made for gaming. I just feel like it might be a name game with BenQ. Pros use the monitor. So BenQ takes advantage of the bandwagon approach. So a lot of people might think "Oh. The pros use it so I should to!" I might be wrong but it seems like because of this, BenQ prices a little higher because of the name.

And I have heard about people receiving an Asus with dead pixels or a completely dead monitor. That is my one major worry. If it wasn't for that I probably would have already ordered the Asus.

So I checked out the GL2455HM. I love it. I love the monitor. I love most the specs. I don't like the 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio. And I hate the price. I am not gonna hold 10 dollars against you, but newegg has the monitor for 190. Where did you get yours from? Also if I end up getting this monitor, would you mind helping me out with the settings?

I know. Asus has always been decently reliable. And I feel like they usually get good reviews.

Nitesdeath. The monitor you suggested is a TN panel monitor. I know the viewing angles on them are usually horrible. How is it on your BenQ. I just move a lot in my seat, and I hope angles don't ruin my experience. And what are the colors like?

If you're looking for a good monitor which balances the snappiness of a TN and color reproduction of an IPS then read up on the review for Dell U2414H on TFTCentral. It has 2 HDMI inputs (for consoles) and 2 DisplayPorts for a PC (and Daisy Chaining although DP is spotty). On a PC, you can even overclock it to 75Hz on HDMI (and, according to some reports, 80Hz on DP) ..

The Dell looks absolutely stunning. Not in the stats but in the way it looks. Just sitting on a desk it would look extremely nice. But the price tag is a little over and beyond.
