So I recently got an upgrade to a gtx 1070 i7 8700 system and once I got it I immediately realized just how bad my current monitor (really a tv) is. It is about 5 years old so its burning out quite bad and everything is pretty blurry so I have been looking into getting a gaming monitor.
I already have been looking at the ASUS vg248qe 144hz 1080p 1ms but I am also looking for any other good suggestions. I would prefer 1080p just for the performance to be the best it can while looking pretty good and 144hz is a must have and the 1ms response would be preferred but I doubt I could see the difference between 1ms and like 4ms,

I live in Canada and budget wise I'd say it's about $450 CAD but I could possibly go 50 more if it was really worth it

Hi there!

I suggest you to pick an ultrawide monitor (21:9, no 16:9). I have an Asus PG348Q, 3440x1440, 100 Hz, Gsync... and it's the best thing I've bought in my life. All my friends bought one like mine when they saw it.

For your graphics card, I would pick an ultrawide monitor with 2560x1080 resolution, 144 Hz and GSync, because your GPU can't handle higher resolutions comfortably. I know that because I had a Titan X Maxwell (watercooled and overclocked to hell), which runs exactly like yours, and it wasn't powerful enough for my monitor. Even my 1080 Ti can't run Ghost Recon Wildlands at +60 fps with all settings maxed out at my monitor's resolution.

Keep in mind that you will keep your monitor for a lot of time and you won't change it unless it dies or you win the lottery.

In my opinion, G-Sync is a must because, if you don't have that, you have to turn on v-sync in games to avoid image tearing... but if your graphics card isn't strong enough to run the game at a high framerate, v-sync will cut your framerate to the half and you'll notice the stuttering.

Hope this helps ^^

For 1080p@144HZ

However if I may reccomend something else It'd be this

2560x1080, 160Hz, curved screen VA panel(will look better than a TN).

I'm currently running a 2560x1080 LG(the Asus is a secondary monitor) on my 980Ti(similar in performance to a 1070) and it runs the resolution well.

A 2560x1820 is definitely something I will keep in mind but my thought is, how big would the performance difference be from 2560x1080 and 1920x1080? Would it be as large of a drop as 1080 to 1440 is? Also I heard that 21:9 isn't supported in all games so would that be a big issue as well?

According to the information I've found, the difference will be around +15 fps vs 1920x1080... but your graphics card can run most games at more than 60 fps at 2560x1440, which is a more demanding resolution than 2560x1080.
