Hi as the title says really, I'm building a gaming pc and have a few parts already like a case, 780ti 16gb ram and a ssd and hardrive, building with the new 4790k in mind and got everything planned except I have no idea what motherboard to get, I use my pc for gaming and surfing the web only and just want one thats good to oc with and obviously gives the best fps, price isn't really a issue, also fast networking is a plus since I play lots of online stuff :)

Thanks for help :)

Solution
All Z97 based motherboards will do the job for you.
Pick one from your favorite vendor.

With a i5-4790K and a GTX780ti your gaming fps performance is largely cast in stone and will be very good.
Even at stock clocks.

You will want a aftermarket cooler. It will run quieter and oc better than the stock intel cooler.
Do not pay a bunch for liquid cooling. A $30 cm hyper212 will d reasonably well.
If you want, a noctua or Phanteks air cooler with a 140mm fan is as good as you need to get.

"Any" Z97 could do, but steve asked for the one with the best overclocking capabilities (Quality VRMs, stable power phases) Top tier NIC for ethernet (The Hero uses an Intel NIC that is very good) Other than the Hero I'd recommend the MSI Z97 gaming 9 when it comes out or the Z97 MPower Max.

In all the Z97 reviews I have read, there is virtually NO difference in performance or overclocking among them all.
Enthusiast levels of voltage controls are really only applicable to record seeking overclockers.
Not to one who simply wants to get a conservative oc.
Ditto on the network capabilities.

If you have a special need for features, let that decide you.
Some will have wifi onboard.
Some will have good spacing for graphics cards and sli.
Some will have M.2 attachment, some will have sata express, some will have extra pcie x4. . No way of telling which will prevail for future ssd's.
If your case is small, it might take only a M-ATX sized motherboard.

I might pick one which has been around for a while with lots of reviews. It is more likely to have a more mature bios.

Some mobos can give more juice with less squishing, higher clock speeds with less vcore and keep it stable. There are benchmarks regarding ethernet data transfer, Sata data read/write as well. There is also the BIAS regarding QC, quality of components and support service. The motherboard is what connects everything in the system so, you wouldn't just say that any will do to someone asking what is better.

thanks for all your answers had a good look around and going to settle on the Asus Maximus VII Hero seems perfect for what I want, going to start the build in around 4 weeks since Im going on holiday soon Ill keep you all posted :):)
