SO basically my question is would gaming with my PC on a 55" 780p tv be crap? He's offering that TV for $50, which seems like an absolute steal. Im going to build the PC, and im considering his offer.
Any opinions welcome
Thanks!

It wouldn't be crap, but it wouldn't be highly detailed. It also depends on what specs your pc is and what resolutions you can even run games in. What is your video card / cpu going to be? If it were me and I didn't have a large display I would get this to use at times, but I would also get a smaller better display for certain games later on. The price for the size is good if you want a large display. It honestly depends on what you want. It won't look horrible, but it wouldn't look amazing, it would fall somewhere in the middle.. I would look a bit better than an xbox 360. Those run most games in 720p, but on pc you will be able to tweak it a bit more to make it somewhat better looking.

Thanks for the reply. My GPU is going to be a GTX 1060 3GB, with an i5 7600k. The reason that I was considering it was because it is such a cheap deal. I assume the input lag would be evident?

Input lag would really depend on what your playing. I use a 48' 1080p 3d tv as my main display and have never had issues with input lag. I play a variety of games like Mass Effect (mp only), Overwatch, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Dark Souls. If your playing CS:GO or something very similar at an extremely high level then yeah it could be somewhat of an issue. Just get another smaller display later if you need it for something like that.

Only issue I see is that your GPU / CPU will be able to run pretty much every new amazing looking game at 60fps, 1080p maxed out and it will never look as good as it can, but for that price if you want a large display it's a solid deal. If you play a lot of these higher end newer games online then your going to probably have to drop the resolution or settings some to get 60fps online. For mass effect I run it on high 1080p 60fps but I put the render scale to 80% which is like playing somewhere between 720 & 1080p and it still looks pretty impressive.

One last thing I would consider is the usage of this tv outside of gaming. Would you watch Netflix, movies or browse the net with it? If it's strictly for gaming it could be more beneficial to save that 50$ and put it towards something nicer, but if you would watch movies and other things as well then you are likely to get far more than 50$ of usage from it. Half the tv shows I download are only in 720p anyway.
