Before I start, yes I know that using a docking station would have slower load times for games and the lot. That's not exactly what I'm planning to do though. I recently picked up a USB 3.0 docking station with the intention to benchmark a huge amount of games on a laptop (like 20+) This would not only take forever to install on a 2.5" HDD (which my MSI laptop currently uses), but perhaps unnecessary if I could find a way to just use the Hard drive in my desktop, thus saving having to install 1tb worth of games.

I need to make this clear. I know that this isn't a great solution for long time gaming, what I need to know is whether the USB 3.0 interface would bottleneck the transfer speed so much that it would affect my FPS?

I thought about trying to copy the files over from the HDD instead of playing directly on them, however I'm not quite sure if that would work, plus I'm also unable to figure out how to find ALL the registry keys for each game install to transfer too.

I thought so, but I ran CrystalDiskMark and the scores were approximately half for the majority of runs compared to sata (conducted on a WD 3TB green as that was the only one I have access to outside my case. For games...I'm using the Seagate Barracuda 2TB).
