Gaming online and always getting high ping (Over 900)

I play games online and all the time I get 900+ ping
It lasts for 30 - 60 seconds then it goes back to normal
I am on Windows 8

You are likely playing on wireless. Data on wireless is retransmitted over and over when corruptions is detected to get a clean copy of the data. This takes time. This is a unsolvable issue on wireless other than to no use wireless.

The only other way to get 900ms is to have your data going from location to location via satellite which is only about 500ms and it would not be a random thing.

run a traceroute to the server when it is happening. You are looking to find where in the path this is happening. If it is in the first hop it is like a issue with your router. if it is in the second it is in the connection to your house. farther out means your or another ISP has a issue.

You want to run some traceroutes when things are working properly also so that you know what is abnormal when your problems start.
