Just finished setting up my build for a new 2014 gaming PC. I'm planning on overclocking the CPU and maybe adding sli down the road hence the overkill on the PSU. I don't plan on playing at crazy high resolutions at the moment, mostly 1080p but I wanted to not have to buy a new gpu any time soon so I guess the 780 falls under "future-proofing". Here's the configuration:

Do I need to change or upgrade anything? I'll be playing older games as well as newer AAA games coming out this year. Anything from MMOs to RPGs to FPS Shooters.

You don't need thermal compound. The thermal paste that comes on the cpu cooler is sufficient and doesn't need replacing.
Also note the release of z97 is really close. Whilst you will be an early adopted of the Z97, there may be some features that may appeal to you. Example is sata express or Broadwell cpu upgrade as they can be placed in the 1550 socket.

Yeah, that's fine. That PSU is of excellent quality and has the wattage to handle a 780 SLI setup.
