Hi all,

I’m building a gaming PC for a teen that will likely be playing Fortnite, CoD, Battlefield. I put together the following build list and would appreciate some feedback:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kJrk4d

I already have the processor, but everything is else is open for feedback. A couple things I need specific advice on is the case and video card. I don’t need a super expensive high end card, but want something powerful enough to handle the games I mentioned above. I know there is a supply shortage, so recommendations on what I might actually be able to get would be helpful too.

For the case, I know he wants something that looks “cool” with some lights, but I don’t want to spend very much on the case. Thanks I’m advance for the help!

I believe they have a 4 monitor. Don’t have a fixed budget, but would like to have enough to the games mentioned above without going super expensive.
CoD and BF are two games that are GPU bound as in more Frames Per Second = better. So if he's playing on 4K then he's going to want at least an RTX 3080.

btw that SSD in your build is a money hog.

WD Blue SN550 NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal SSD $83.99

Here's three cases to consider.

What's his monitor resolution and what's the total budget (minus the cpu).

Thanks for the input! Do you think an RTX 3060 ti would work, or is the 3080 going to make a big difference?

A 3060 Ti won't cut it for 4K. Best to find out for sure what his monitor resolution is. There's some cost cutting that can be done in your build starting with the RAM. That can be changed to 2x16GB which allows you to add another 16GB set of RAM later on. Also non RGB Teamgroup 2x16GB 3200mhz can be had for $60 on Amazon.

Hi guys, I can't post my own thread, so if I may can I ask for some opinions here too. I don't know if it's again the rules, but if it does, just remove my post or ask me to delete it. :)

So I'm gonna build this PC, is this optimal or is there something that needs to be replaced?

Specs:
PROCESSOR: Intel i7-11700F [8C/16T, 2.50-4.90Ghz] (3 Years Warranty)

MOTHERBOARD: MSI MAG B560M Mortar - mATX (3 Years Warranty)

COOLER: Intel Stock Cooler

RAM: Kingston FURY Beast 8GB (8X1) DDR4 3200Mhz (Limited Lifetime Warranty)

GPU: INNO3D RTX 3070 Twin X2 8GB GDDR6 (3 Years Warranty)

SSD: ADATA SU650 120GB 3D-NAND (3 Years Warranty)

PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF2 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular (10 Years Warranty)

CHASSIS: Thermaltake Versa T35 [ATX] (1 Year Warranty)

Fan: Thermaltake ARGB 14cm Fans (2 unit) + Thermaltake stock fan (1 unit)

Thank you!

1x8GB would have you running in single channel. You want a 2x8GB set. The SSD is way too small and that Thermaltake PSU is one you'd never see recommended on this site. btw you want an aftermarket cpu cooler for that cpu.

If you have a microcenter within 1 hours drive I highly suggest checking their store for stock (you have to go in). If they have a 3080 for less than 1000 or a 3080 ti for less than 1300 I would grab it. If they have a 6900 XT for less than 1150 or potentially a 6800 XT for less than 900 I would also grab it. This is all assuming he is using a 4k monitor. If he is useing 1440p or 1080p the 3060 ti or 3070 can be a good match. Same with a 6800 from AMD.

For those titles on a 4k monitor using available options I would do either this (6800xt is only 50 dollars cheaper at time of writing);

Thanks for all the advice! I do live semi-close to a microcenter, so I will check that out.

Would Fortnite be playable using integrated graphics on a 1080 monitor while I’m hunting down an rtx 3080?

You also listed CoD and Battlefield which are AAA titles that are very taxing at 4k resolution. 1920 x 1080 resolution has one fourth the pixels that 3840 x 2160 or 4k and because of this it is generally 4x as demanding to run than at 1080p. If he is using a 1080p monitor then you can get a 3060 ti and be fine at that resolution for years to come.
