Hi

Dark Souls 3 is coming, so it's time to take the final step from ps3 to laptop to gaming desktop. But, as the title said; I'm a complete newbie.

The requirements are the following:

OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit, Windows 8.1 64bit, Windows 10 64bit
Processor: AMD FX 8150 3.6 GHz or Intel Core i7 2600 3.4 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, ATI Radeon HD 7850
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband internet connection
Storage: 50GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 11 sound device

My attempt so far:

Case: Be quiet! Silent Base 800
Processor: Intel i5-4690K ?
Motherboard: MSI H170 gaming, socket 1151 ?
Power supply: EVGA SuperNOVA GS650W ?
Memory: Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 1600MHz 8GB
Graphics: Nvidia Gainward GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Primary storage: Samsung 850 EVO mZ-75E250GB
Secondary storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Sound Card: I assume it's included in most CPUs
OS: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit
DVD reader: Samsung DVD Writer, SH-224FB

I can't splurge on the hardware right now (although it's tempting) because I have to buy a monitor and everything else too. However, I'd like the option to upgrade in the future. Also, I value silence, although I realize I may have to prioritise…

I'm pretty certain about the graphics card; the more expensive versions are too big a jump, and I could possibly use two GTX 970s if I upgrade later on?

I love the case, although I probably could get a cheaper one (but probably won't).
Memory and storage is OK, I think -- unless I'm swapping CPU -- in which case I'll need DDR4 RAM.

CPU, motherboard and PSU on the other hand… I don't know. Should I invest in an i7 something instead of an i5 something? It's not that much of a jump, except that I'll have to buy a separate CPU fan and DDR4 RAM. I'm not going to overclock.

PSU and motherboard will depend on the CPU, but, as I've mentioned, I'd like to be able to upgrade should I want too.

Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated; PC building is a bit intimidating, to say the least.

Solution
ips models:
23 inch:Asus VC239H/Asus MX239H(got this 1 personally i like it so much)
24 inch😀ell Ultrasharp U2414H/Dell UltraSharp U2412M/Eizo FlexScan EV2450-BK/Eizo FORIS FS2434-BK

gsync: Acer Predator XB240HAbpr/AOC G2460PG

since u wont be playing shooters much i would lean to an ips panel/ however the gsync is nice since u wont have any screen tearing.
hey man there are a few things wrong with your build like your cpu doesn't fit in your mobo.
few things .
do u plan on streaming? if yes games like league csgo or higher games like dark souls 3
whats your budget?
do u want the possibility to overclock(5extra fps imo not worth it but up to you)?
do you care much about the looks of your pc ? (window case leds etc)?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I should probably double check compability, but I'm so unsure about the CPU, mobo and PSU.

I don't plan on streaming or overclocking.

I'm not sure about the budget, but it's at least 1200 USD. It depends on how much I have to spend on eg. the monitor.

I don't care that much about the looks, really, but I think I fell in love with that case so... I'd rather have a silent one than a good-looking one.

I have been looking at this one: AOC 24'' LED G-sync g2460Pg. I can get it for approximately 465 USD (Everything is expensive where I live)

I'm from Norway. I don't dare to import due to taxes, so I'll have to buy the parts here, which should increase the prices a bit.
Budget: 10.000-12.000 NOK approximately, not including monitor etc.
I may be willing to go higher if it helps me upgrade in the future, but that's my starting point.

about the build.

this pc is an absolute monster check the benchmarks of this pc with the link below (the red numbers matter for you).
Expect to get a few 2-5 more fps to get because of graphical updates and you got a faster single core than that pc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSDQzlKDYq4

cpu- powerful as it can get this won't bottleneck your GPU n any way.
gpu- very strong Gpu can max almost any game without gimmicks like hairworks(even the most expensive opus struggle with that).
mobo- solid motherboard with red leds and the latest features and enough usb ports.
ram- just good ram ram is ram.
power supply - best thats available safe tier 1 psu http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
hdd- 250gb for razor fast loading times like windows /maps in games(this does not improve performance)

few notes:
-all high quality components this pc should last easily 7+years .
-Upgrade is possible.
- 250 gb is short u can later add a 1tb hdd with ease(takes 10mins).
-this case hasn't got a disk drive so u can not put in discs.
- i can drop the price but i need a bit more time without losing quality.
-i need your opinion on the looks and your favours like do u need a disk drive? white case black case?
-later on i can help you with a monitor :) single screen / fast response time/ dual monitors.

edit: forgot cpu cooler to mention its a very stable silent cpu cooler best in class and I'm also a dark souls fan I've played blood borne so i know what u want haha :)

Wow, you sure are fast! Superninja indeed.

Could I still use the previous case? I like the fact that it's supposed to be noise-dampening, and I do need a disc drive.
Black case> white case.

I just need one monitor, but I liked NVIDIAS gsync. Is it worth it? Or AMDs equivalent.

(And it hurts badly not to be able to play Bloodborne, but PC it is!)

you have got an amd card so u need free sync monitor the purpose is the same as gsync.
and yes its worth it that gives less screen tearing which is super annoying.
you got a pretty large budget so maybe u can buy a 2k monitor but if you decide to get a 1080p monitor we are going to get a gtx970 because it gives you a higher stable average framerate on 1080p. Also a lot of games like the witcher 3/tomb raider/fallout 4 will use exclusive nvidia ''stuff'' so u get even better framerater.
-so up to the monitor if u are going for an r9 390 or a gtx 970-

Idk if you can use the previous case i need a model name.
And there are tons of black cases :) lets do this priscilla C: .

edit: lets skip freesync/gsync monitors they're that expensive and besides that the cheapest ones are tn panel( the colours will suffer so less image quality). your gpu is that strong so we should be able to avoid that (screen tearing) however i wonder because yes 2k is in your range but your fps will drop quite bad on a 2k screen. so i think its better to get a really nice 24 inch full hd monitor and max that out and save some money and spend that left over money on games .

Here's the case: http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=2896953&
And yes, the "nvidia stuff" is partly the reason i chose the GTX970 (also, I read that AMD may be a bit more noisy).

Also, I posted the same question on a Norwegian board, and got this recommendation: http://www.prisjakt.no/list.php?l=254689&view=b
What do you think? I like it so far, but haven't quite figured out if it has space for two cards if i want to upgrade later on, or if I need to upgrade to a single better card instead (that may be easier regarding mobo and PSU?)

http://www.prisjakt.no/list.php?l=254689&view=b

-I dislike the case but thats personally
- the motherboards name is Z170 there 2 types with the latest features z170 and h170 z supports overclocking and h170 doesn't . So thats why h170 boards are cheaper and also this board hasn't got a lot of usb ports .
- the cpu has got a k behind the name i5 6600K this means the cpu is able to be overclock a non k chip is a bit cheaper but loses the ability to oc..
-the best GPUS are from asus and msi , the msi is smaller makes a tiny bit more noise but pulls 0-2 extra fps.
The asus has got a backplate and is a bit cooler .

Despite everything this build is great too
the rest is up to you :) did you make up your mind on the monitor?:)

I think I'd like to keep the case if there's only the aesthetics that's "wrong" with it :)

Still thinking on this monitor, in which case I need nvidia for gsync: https://www.komplett.no/product/815653/datautstyr/skjermer/skjermer/aoc-24-led-g-sync-g2460pg

It's probably a waste with a processor that can be overclocked when I won't use it. Any that are "equally good" and compatible, just without the "K"?

So if my new starting point is this one: http://www.prisjakt.no/list.php?l=254689&view=b, with the monitor from above. Would you make any changes?

I think this has space for two GPUs if I should decide to upgrade later on. But would you recommend upgrading by buying another of the same GPU later, or simply buying one single better card? Two GPUs means one is going to get hot, which means I need more fans?

- cpu i5 6600(see what i did there i removed the k 😛)
- mobo asus h170 pro gaming or msi h170 gaming pro (msi has got more ports but matching gpu with mobo is always nice)
- about sli (2 gpus) its not worth it. It will draw a lot of power and very few games scale with sli very well. Also nvidia pascal (new graphics cards 2016) will release this summer.watch this 5 min video for more info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSDQzlKDYq4 .
-Because of that i drop the PSU to the 750w version even the 980 ti recommendation is 650w so thats why 750w(also u have got the best quality psu).
- about the monitor yes its jaw dropping but u need to face to monitor from a direct angle because its a tn panel.

about the monitor.

144 fps gsync thats greta stuff. However u would only benefit from this screen if u play shooters / games that need a fast reaction time.
Otherwise get an IPS screen this will give better colours better viewing angles but a lower refresh rate(60hz) and a lower response time (5ms).

conclusion: i would get that1 44z monitor cuz i also play csgo /league once in a while and than 144hz is really great.
People claim that if u ever played on 144hz u don't want to go back because everything is so smooth and everything responses immediately in game.

:)

Haha, it was that simple to remove the "K" 😀

I tried to make some changes:http://

I'm not going to overclock, and wont use SLI, so:
- removed the fan as the i5-6600 has one included
- swapped mobos, although I'm not sure which one were "best"
- went from 850 to 750W PSU

Loading screens are terrible, but I have both SSD and HDD, so I should be good?

Hmh, I mostly play (action-)RPG/strategy, so the monitor is too expensive for my needs? I haven't researched monitors too much yet, but I kind of want the gsync.

Got recommended to not buy the 6600 due to, among other things, the small price difference and the fact that it's more difficult to clean of dust.

So it's back to the 6600K and the Z170. At least I can overclock now if I want to (and learn how).
Then I added a CPU fan, and went down to a 650W PSU to save quite a bit of money. It'll do nicely, I think.

Final (?) version:
http://

Now I just need thermal paste, something to organize cables with, monitor, keyboard and speakers, and I should be good to go 😀 Oh, and an antistatic wrist-strap (carpet floors -- don't want to fry anything).

Are there any tools I need specifically for PC building? I have basic screwdrivers and such.

Any tips for the building itself, or is it as easy as everybody says it is?

build is still a 10/10 and i would take that dust with a grain of salt.
That dust isnt bad because already have got good dust filters on the case.
But yeah now u got the full pack.

the 212 evo cpu cooler comes already with good quality thermal paste so dont worry about that.
650 watt is still great i was about to suggest it but u were me before haha.
The antistatic wrist strap is possible and good but not needed but u can play extra safe i guess.
i've seen many people do it without antistatic mats and wrist straps.
basic screw drivers are enough😀.

building a pc might take some time especially if you're new but u will get it done no matter what.
now let me look for a monitor 😀

edit: cable managament is no problem your psu is semi-modulair which means u need to plug the cables into the psu that u need.
this is great for cable management

you said you like to play rpg (ds3/witcher 3)strategy games i assume strarcraft/league.

A 144hz monitor is only worth it if youre going to play shooters because you will benefit from the refresh rate alot.
Dont get me wrong you will notice smoother gameplay but it isnt that much worth it if you arent playing shooters.
But tn panels lack in image quality.

So an Ips display would be better if gives way better image quality see link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8Y26Uq07Kw
but they only come in 60fps for cheap (the input lagg isnt noticeable believe me).
good monitor: http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=2702880

About gsync its worth it you get rid of ALMOST any screen tearing and you will enjoy games alot more especially singleplayer games like dark souls 3.
The one you showed is great.

if you want the best of both 144 hz and ips which is great comes in 2k (can turn down to 1080) and gsync. than 1 of these 2
http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=3333873
http://www.prisjakt.no/product.php?p=3410310

there will be more screen available but we need to do some more research.

ow and keep in mind 60hz + 1-5ms=no difference.
for 144 hz u want a 1-2ms because only than u will notice it there are alot of topics about this.
