Hey guys,

I am currently planning on building a PC for gaming (my first time BTW) and I have been doing some research for the past month now. Here is the parts I have picked:

Case: Corsair Graphite 760t
Mobo: Asus Z97-Pro
CPU: Intel i5-4690K
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series DDR3-1600 (4Gb x 2)
Cooling: H100i
GPU: 2 x GTX670-DC2-4GD5 (SLI)
PSU: Corsair RM650W 80 Gold Plus
Storage: Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM
Considering an SSD as well

So what i need help with is:

1. whether the H100i or Hyper 212 EVO is better for this case? (push or push/pull) recommended fan setup? (application is gaming once again probably OCd)
2. Whether I can use 1866 memory with this configuration and what is the gain/whether it will be limited?
3. Thoughts on the GPUs and overall all items

You'd probably be better off going with a 780ti then dual 670. Way less power consumption and way less heat plus better compatibility with games. Also I hear nvidia is launching the 900 series in a month and the prices of the 780 ti should drop. That's the time to buy it if you can wait. Also go for the 1866 ram honestly you could probably even get a higher ram speed and just overclock the memory controller on your i5

Would automatic overclocking be possible with Asus one click optimization? I chose the 1600 ram because some say that pc won't use the excess speed due to mobo and processor limitations. Anyway, I am not very familiar with overclocking procedures yet. So I will definitely read on that. Thanks for your input

Yes Asus z97 motherboards are made for devils canyon cpus, it has 5way optimization and it will automatically overclock your CPU on load, i have i5 4690k with asus z97-a and my cpu is on 4.8GHz on load with noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler

Also I agree with Danimal1q2w3 to but single GPU instead of SLI because it is not worth it.

If you play on a single 1080p monitor get ASUS GTX770(it has nice gaming option in GPU software that will oc your gpu automatically when gaming 😀 ) if you play on dual monitor or higher resolution than 1080p get 780ti

Your mobo and cpu will support up to 2133 MHz RAM when overclocked

If you buy high profile ram get h100i if you buy low profile ram I recommend noctua nh-d15 (make sure it can fit your case)

Do you know what is the difference between z97-pro and z97-a motherboard? (in other words why are you buying z97-pro)

Final recommendation: get rid of corsairs RM650 PSU and get XFX/EVGA/Antec 700-750W

Z97-Pro because of Wifi. So what you are saying Proofy, is that I can go with 2133 Ram and i can OC with Asus tuner? Anyway I agree with you on the GPU. The 780ti looks very appealing but I don't think I am ready to shell out so much on just the GPU. Your recommendation on heatsink is a bit confusing. What does it have to do with the ram other than the size of heatsink? Which do you think offers better cooling to the core, H110i or Noctua?

Yes ok if you need the wifi on board go with z97-pro it is the same mobo as z97-a but with wifi and few more usb ports

Yes you can go with 2133MHz ram if you want but there is no difference in GAMING performance between 1600MHz and 2133MHz so to save you some money buy 1866MHz ram (because 1866 and 1600 are only around 10-20$ difference so) if you will be using it for gaming purposes

If you decide to buy Noctua air heatsink you need low profile ram otherwise your second fan on the headsink won't fit ( you can google difference between low and high profle ram, second fan will give you 3-5C better temperature)

H110i is a good cooler also but I don't like liquid coolers because in case pump breaks you have to change the whole cooler and there's a chance it could spill liquid on your components and then say bye bye to your computer...

Now both Noctua nh-d15 and H110i are running neck to neck with the cpu temperature so the performance is about the same. So let me put it this way.

Bad side of Noctua nh-d15: IT IS HUGE ASS COOLER
Bad side of H110i: It can break and destroy your componens, the pumps are noisy and is more load than nh-d15 because of that
