It has an upgrade path, pretty strong gaming performance for 1080p 60hz. I'd prob try stretch to 16gbs of ram if budget allowed, but still a very capable gaming machine. With just a GPU/ram upgrade in a year and then a CPU upgrade a year after that, your still gonna have a very capable machine.

Would I be better going with an r5 2600 for only a few £ more?

If only for a few bucks more then yes. It's about 10% faster.

It's not a bad build at all from feelingfroggy777 either. Less powerful CPU, but better GPU, includes SSD, and has 16gb ram too. His build would cost approx £550, but some parts aren't available in UK.In some demanding games like BF V or AAA games the CPU might struggle a little, but makes up for it with a very good GPU.

stick with 1 build thread. don't spam the forum
I am trying to build a £500 Gaming PC. (can go to £550 max.) I am new to building pc's but have done alot of research over the past month to try and get the best bang for my buck. I will be adding a monitor and other peripherals outside of costs but the pc will be primarily used for gaming and schoolwork (Ms Word, Powerpoint etc). I would like some RGB, mainly fans and CPU cooler really.

I would like all parts to be included, (case, psu, GPU, CPU, RAM, Mobo, CPU cooler, Fans, Storage, etc)

Thanks in advance.
