You don't want an optical drive? I don't know why people are so greedy on SSD's, 256 GB for games and applicaton is just nothing today.

I might get one for dvds and stuff but I plan on getting steam for games

If it were me I would swap the 6700k for 6600k and use saved money to buy a bigger 500gb SSD and a 980ti

Well I'd change a few things. But I do like the fact your building a Intel 1151 based PC. Here's a list of the changes.

I'd drop the I7 6700k and get a I5 6600k . Put That savings into a better motherboard.

I don't like to criticize but the motherboard is the heart of your system. I'd look for a good mid range board in the $150 to $250 area. They just last longer and have less issues.

Go to Asus or Samsung for a monitor.

Drop your ram down to DDR4 2400. Just ordered the parts for my Z170 build and did my research on the ram. Faster isn't that much better on the Skylake Z170 platform. There has been some issues with the faster ram speeds.

Look for a case with better air flow.

Your graphics card is fine but do you really need a GTX 980 for over $500 when you can save money and drop it into better components by getting a GTX 970.

As a general rule never skimp on price on these components. Power supply, Motherboard, case, ram, and CPU heat sink and fan.
Revise a few things and let us know what you come up with.
