Gaming pc for £500

Hi All

Well after going through my 3rd xbox 360 I've decided to turn to Pc gaming. Im not very techie so will require a prebuilt system. My budget is £500 and I'm hoping I can get a system that will play bf3 on high settings ( if thats realistic). The budget is purley for the pc which I'll be buying shortly after xmas as I'm being given a 1920x1080 22inch monitor and a keyboprd & mouse.

Both are worthless, a 6670 or 630GT is not enough nowadays, and for battlefield high @1080 they're no good.
You have a 1080p monitor, and for that at least a 7850 or 660 gtx for that resolution.
You can have a good pc with 450£ by buying the parts and then pay the rest for assemble the parts in a pc shop.

This is solid advice. Or just look up some Youtube videos on how to do it yourself - probably save you at least £60 and it's a useful skill to have. Money saved could be put towards getting a 2GB GTX660 in there and/or SSD.

Thanks for the suggestion, just a quick question about the processor. The ones in the pcs I posted are 4ghz and up quad core where the one you have said is 3.1ghz so wouldn't the pre builds run faster? Plus there is a lot more memory.

Would the pc's I've listed be ok for gaming in the mid to high settings for a year or so then I could upgrade the graphics card?

Nah, it doesn't help if it's 4 or 6 inferior cores. Lots of people look at specs to estimate performance when they could just look at results:

Memory is dirt cheap to buy (£30 for 8GB) and any more won't do anything for gaming (even 8GB is overkill). You need an i3 or i5 with a decent graphics card.

Thanks again, think I'm going to attempt to build this myself after putting in some time watching tutorials online. Will most likely be going with the build djangoringo's posted. Would there be much different between the hd7850 1gb and hd7850 2gb?

This is even better than the "more FPS" build djangoringo suggested.
It has got a better graphics card, better hard drive and a much better case.

I'm going with the xfx radon hd7870 2gb and I'm going out to buy the rest most of the parts this week. Would I need a heat sink and addition fans?
