Hi guys,

I've seen you answer previous posters regarding gaming setups for a certain price.

My son is turning 21 this weekend and I am looking to buy him a gaming PC for his birthday, I have been on the console circuit for a number of years now so haven't had much exposure to the world of PC gaming. So I was hoping you could help me out.

I am looking to spend around £800 for the system, I would like some recommendations as to what I should be buying - should I buy a pre-built system or go all out and build my own?

I am hopefully looking to get a rig that can perform at high/ultra on most previous releases.

I'm counting on you guys and I'm sure you can give a perfect suggestion!

Thanks,

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/9ptnTH. Ok, I recommend you build the PC for your son. To know how to build you can watch a few videos on youtube like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZUYymbCH1w. But why build over pre - built? If you want to build a budget build pre builds will charge extra money. So if you have an £800 budget, it's very rare to find a build with a 970 which is prebuilt. And I'm sure your son would prefer a 970 over 960. If you have to build it by this weekend, don't worry about the 1070/1080 (which is a graphics card released in a few months). In my build I have an I3 6100. When you think of I3, you think old, but this is skylake, brand new. And this is a beast CPU, which competes with the i5 6500, a £170 CPU. The...

The 970 is a great GPU for your son, should last him for a few years. I also got you a beast Power Supply and SDD. And yes, this build will run brand new releases ultra 1080P at 60fps (sometimes higher)

I really like the build you have suggested, the only thing holding me back at the moment is the impending release of the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 - Shall I wait until it's release date?

thats up to you look.

-you can buy the pc now except the cpu and browse the web and play league and csgo on 60+ fps on med settings.
- you can buy the gtx 970 and play all kinds of games on ultra and in the next few years u will too
- you can buy the 1070 and play on ultra but u need to wait until release, yes u can turn more gimmicks on than the 970.

just watch some benchmarks from digital foundry, probably grabbing a handfull more fps now since games will be optimalized.

Sorry to be a pain, could you possibly suggest a different power supply, I'm looking to get this by Saturday so need one to be under Amazon's 'Prime' delivery option.

I can keep that within my budget no problem!

As for the case, I'm liking the look of this one more.

Would it be compatible?

Thanks!

Right, I'm going to go with your build and see how it goes!

One last question before I put it through, would this solid drive be a better alternative?

Or would you suggest sticking with the Samsung?

Samsung is way better

Go for and I5 6500 and a H110 motherboard and spend the savings on a better GPU. The GTX 1070 will cost upwards of £300 but the upcoming R9 480 at about £160-£200 promises to be a beast for the price.
