so Im building my gaming pc and want to get some opinions on my system. I want it to be very future proof yet affordable. Ive ordered all the parts but havent opened them in case I should return them.

CPU- intel i-5 6500 (will this processor be good for the next 4 years? Will it be able to handle pascal?) or is the i7-4790K worth the extra 100$ for gaming potential and future proof? Or is there better processors?

GPU- GTX 970 (Plan on upgrading to Pascal 2 years down the road) Or is R9 390x worth the extra 100$? The GTX 980 isnt worth it to me since it's only about 10% better than the GTX 970 so Im interested in cost/performance

RAM- 8 gig DDR4

250g SSD Samsung

FYI my current PC is 3.3gig i5 2500 with gtx 660ti. Will the build above be a big upgrade?
Thanks everyone!

About the i7 4790k : yes yes yes yes and definetly yes the 4790k is much better for gaming than most processors even from 5th generation ones (only for gaming) and can also be overclocked at a high clock speed without getting too hot . the r9 390x is not wotrth the 100$ as it is not that much of a gaming component as the gtx 970 is ! To get a good future proof pc you should get a lot of watts in PSU as these new GPUs and CPUs are getting more and more power-hungry!
And yes you will feel a huge improvement from that other build!!!

Thanks! Also thinking about getting an R9 390 vs the GTX 970. Wish I had posted this before I ordered everything haha. Is the 4790k that much better than the i5 6500? I generally completely upgrade my computer every 4 years with a CPU upgrade halfway through. Will the i5 6500 last 4 years for high end gaming? For the most part the only thing that matters is the GPU right?
