I've been lurking these forums and been on newegg.com constantly learning as much as i can about computers and there specifications. I now have hit what seems to be a wall. I am trying to get a good value that doesn't leave me wondering if i could have done better. My goal is to achieve a machine capable of running any game for the next couple of years (common goal i know). With your guys help i hope i can find out a specific build that will leave me more then satisfied with my purchase.


Approximate Purchase Date: Hoping to get a job and use about half of my summery earnings on this PC (depends on hours and pay-rate)

Budget Range:I was thinking 1000-1200 Us dollars
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, and day-to-day tasks

Parts Not Required: I need everything.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com seems to be the most commonly used

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: No preference. But, intel i5 seems to be a sweet spot for CPU and GPU seems like it could go either way depending on price point.

Overclocking: I'm a complete novice. However, it does intrigue me. Yes.

SLI or Crossfire: No.

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: This is "theoretical" money as of now but will become real 8)
Also, i have some items in mind but want to see your guy's suggested build first.

I would suggest a build, but if your not buying until end of summer, than things will definitely change.

Things that I'd consider buying in your "projected" price range are:
* CPU: i5 3570k (minimum if you want to OC in the future)
~$240

* Motherboard: z77 based motherboard, so you get the latest tech and all of the options with it (helps to keep your system more relevant longer)
~$100-150 depending on options/brand

* GPU possibilities: GTX 560 Ti/AMD 7850/GTX 570 depending on budget and needs.
~$200-300

* PSU: (500-750w depending on GPU selected) I like Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, & PCP&C for quality PSU's to consider.
~$60-100 de;ending on needs

* Case: I like Cooler Master HAF 912 to start with (has plenty of room and configuration can be changed quite easily. Antec/Corsair make good cases too, so pick one that appeals to you. I do look for USB 3.0 ports on the front, but isn't always needed, since you can get your own front ports for not too much.
~$60-100 depending on the one you get.

* RAM: I'd start with at least 8 gb's of DDR3 1600 mHz that runs at stock voltages (1.5v) to start with. I don't see much gain in having faster RAM than that at this point (cost is not worth it, IMHO).
~$40-60 Also depending on current prices at time of purchase.

* DVD: I'd get the minimum of a DVD burner and if you plan on using any BluRay's than I'd consider at least a BluRay ROM (~$50)/DVD Burner combo.
~$20-100 Also depending on what you want to buy.

* HD: I'd seriously consider at least a 128 gb SSD for the main OS/Apps drive and maybe >=500 gb HD for your data drive.
~$100-150 for SDD
~$75-125 for HD

This should give you an idea on how to build this thing. If you were buying today or within a week, I could build you something now, but >2 months from now all prices will change.


P.S. I was assuming you had monitor/OS/Keyboard/Mouse already. I would change a few things, if you needed any of those items to add to the build.

* Monitor ~$120-150 for 20-22" 1920 x 1080
* OS ~$100 Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium
* Keyboard/Mouse ~$50-75

^^^If you include the Monitor/OS/Keyboard/Mouse in the budget, than I'd suggest:
* getting the 4870 or less expensive GPU
* CM HAF 912 case ~$60
* 500-550w PSU brands listed above ~$50-75
* Stick with DVD Burner ~$20
* Save ~$30 and go with i5 3550 CPU or save ~$100 and get the i3 2120 CPU (plenty for most gaming)

No offense but totally irrelevant post. Computer parts pricing changes so much due to availability and new technology that anything said here will be obsolete by the time you are ready. Keep doing your research and if at that time you are still confused, ask again.
