Gaming PC not performing to expectations

CPU: Intel Core i5-7500 @ 3.4GHz
RAM: Crucial 2400MHz (2x8GB) DDR4
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
SSD: Kingston A400 120GB

Those are my specs I mainly use my computer for gaming, I'm not able to run a lot of new games over 45-50fps in 1440p at medium settings and I'm wondering if I buy a new CPU will I see much difference in performance?

You shouldn’t have too much of a CPU bottleneck at 1440p. When you turn up your graphics options is the FPS still this low? At medium settings your CPU might be struggling to keep up with your GPU.

Although I would expect your 7500 to be a limiting factor 45-50 FPS is low. Which games are you trying? What’s your cpu usage in these games on each of the 4 cores?

Make sure there’s no any background running applications while you gaming, you system is fine. I would expect much more than what you mentioned. I feel like there something running underneath while you gaming and it’s effecting your gaming performance. Keep eye on the task manager and let me know before buying anything.

Yes, for Assassin's Creed Odyssey turning my graphics preset to very high will give about the same frames sometimes worse, messing around with the settings I can get about 52 for average but that's with a lot of settings off and only on high.

I have been keeping an eye on task manager and nothing is running underneath while I'm gaming.
