You can go for a GTX 970 , this card will run smoothly any game at 1080p/1440p.

When you're getting the GPU, just insert it in the PCIe x16 slot (connect the power cables required from your GPU) , you need to introduce the cable that comes from your monitor and that's pretty much it.
 
he's coming from a built-in gpu then into a 970? oh man, he's in for a treat. make sure you fire up a game with the built-in gpu, so you have a reference (in terms of graphics and speed), before installing the gpu, then fire up the same game :)

No you will be fine, just plug your display cable in the GPU and that's pretty much it. After that install the new drivers.
