Gaming PC question

Hello,
I'm new to building a PC but will try finally to build a gaming PC. I see in these forums i5 used for gaming builds but my question is wouldn't a i7 3930k be better then an i5 for gaming? also 4 cores vs 6 cores has no differences for gaming? and 8mb cache vs 12 or 15 mb cache I dont even knwo what those are but do they make a difference in gaming?

These next gen games are becoming more and more GPU dependant. Buy the i5,3770k, or the 3570k

A 6 core would be better in games that can use that many but the 3930k is $300 more for that gain. You dont gain anywhere near 50% performance for the 50% gain in the core count and 150%+ gain in price.

The 3570K overclocks well and is a very powerful processor for the pricetag.

Things like difference in cache size and hyperthreading make little difference in games.

Most games will be gpu bound anyways. Either cpu is powerful enough. The 3570k is also ib vs the 3930k which is sbe so would do better in games that use less cores. And that covers almost every game.

you are right they hardly make adifference what i would suggest you is that save some money on the cpu for a great gpu and motherboard.most games utilize maximum form the gpu......even an core i3 runs games at high settings smoothly at 50-55 fps...........but the best option for you will be core i5 3570k its the lates built on the ivy bridge which makes more power efficient and loww on heat + its got support for the pci 3 slot........you cn also check this chart for your reference http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

Let me put it this way.
The 3570k is the best bang for the buck and if you go any higher than that then you're just wasting money.
So get the 3570k with a 7950 and you will have a well balanced system at the right price
