Gaming pc question

since i don't play any resource intensive games at all, is there a reason for me to get something like r9 280 with a i5 when an overkill graphics card for me would be a gtx 750 ti? because i have 2 builds in mind, a i7 with the 750 ti, and a i5 with the 280. since i plan to play mainly minecraft, which would be better? and here's the thing that makes this difficult. i really dont like to upgrade cpu's so i was thinking of getting a i7 and the 750 ti and upgrade the 750 ti later on. honestly, which would be better the i5 and 280 or a i7 and 750 ti (with gpu upgrade later on, something like a 960 or 970)

For Minecraft more CPU is better. For other games the I5 and 280 is better.

the only "other games" i play rarely once in a while are portal and half life, will a 750 ti be good for them at 1080p?

Minecraft - http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1235&game=Minecraft - a Pentium would run it. Your i5 will shoe it in.
