Hello guys,
Please help me out on this...
I am thinking of building a new gaming pc in 2017. And am confused here.. is the ryzen 1500x + 480 good or i5 7500 + Rx 480 good? Yes for smooth and intense gaming and YouTube video editing. And i would like the build too last at least 3 1/2 years.. and will the 1500x future proofing me? As in future games will start to use more threads and all? Help?!

As he said 1600 is your best bet because games still benefit from those 6 cores somewhat and even more so in near future the x versions are in my opinion bad anyway because they have a higher price while they come without coolers and are basically the same chip just that they have a slightly higher chance to get better overclocks. you can overclock the 1600 easily to 3700 maybe even 3900 Mhz with the stock cooler so it is practically almost as good for gaming as the 1800x while the 1500 does not really bear any future benefits for you the 1600 will stilly be more then enough for core utilization of games for the next 5 years i guess..

I'd recommend the Ryzen 5 1600. Would be more than enough for the RX 480. Since you're editing and doing that stuff, that's why the R5 would a better choice. You'll be fine with gaming too

But he says he's doing video editing. The 2 more cores would be very noticeable for workstation stuff. He could still OC the 1600 a bit too with the stock cooler (not by much), but then doesn't have to worry about buying a separate cooler either.

True 1500x comes with the cooler still the 1600 is just about 15-20% more expensive for those 6 cores which makes it far superior in everything apart from gaming. The 1600 will see benefits in the future when games are utilizing more cores the 1500x on the other hand will stay on this level.
And also you can actually overclock it by much! Everyone who got a good chip is running it at 3.9 Ghz stable if the chip is capable of 3.9 Ghz overclocks some might not go above 3.7 Ghz obviously it will come down to your case fan setup but in general some people are getting to 3.7 Ghz on stock voltage without any heat increase.

What XBloodyR said... 1600/1600x for longer term performance. If you can afford one of those now, the investment will payoff longer term. If you don't already own the 480, wait for the Vega release and see what options are there and at a minimum, after Vega does launch, the price point for the 480 will fall. If you own a 480 now... all in on a 1600/1600x :)
