For the graphics card, I see that there is an XFX version for $10 cheaper. Would that be fine or is Gigabyte that much better?

Its hard to keep in this budget and make a good pc for OC because you need better motherboard.

Nah for GPU i prefer Gigabyte.

I guess I'll skip overclocking, but for the first build, is there a better case you could find?

I would go with the Cougar Spike case if you buy a MicroATX motherboard, if you end up with an ATX motherboard than the NZXT case it best.

How can I make this build less expensive? A downgrade to the video card would be fine because I will not be playing very intensive games

Saved $70 by downgrading the motherboard and switching to a GTX 750. I also switched the power supply to a Corsair CX430 since the GTX 750 is less demanding on the power supply.

You could save another $20 by getting an FX 4300 instead of 6300, but you lose two cores. I think the $20 for the 6300 is worth it.
